What is name of free legal service that MSE cautiously recommended couple years ago?

For the life of me I can't find the name of a site offering free legal advice, that MSE recommended maybe a couple of years ago.

It was supposedly run by solicitors/lawyers and was a step-up from general consumer sites.

Anyone remember the name?

I'll keep hunting, but haven't had much luck so far.

Cheers.

I don't believe there is any such thing as "free" legal advice. There is always a catch.

However, there are plenty of generic advice articles on MSE-perhaps this is what you remember reading?

Do you mean that Resolver tool - http://www.resolver.co.uk/ - which offers you a bank of precedent "I want something for nothing" letters?

I've seen the Resolver site, but what MSE recommended (and asked for feedback on) and I had a brief look a couple of years ago was another site.

I'm wracking my brain, but the name eludes me.

I think I might have found it.

    moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/how-to-complain

Under "Further free direct info and advice" is:

    thelawforum.co.uk/

It looks a little different than I remember, but it could be what I recall.

    Are there any others?

Since they run a competing forum, MSE won't have recommended them even cautiously.

In fact, not many people want or need the kind of "free" legal advice offered by CAG. They are unbelievably litigious and encourage court action for even the most minor problems..

They used to be talked about quite a bit on the dfw board years ago

CAG could be a good place to look if the legal route might be an option.

It depends what the Op is looking for really ... issuing small claims proceedings isn't for everyone, but it is often the only effective recourse when a complaint letter fails.

Nothing makes a company sit up and take notice of an unresolved complaint quite like a legitimate small claim form landing on their doormat! In my experience most companies settle once they realise their bluff has been called, as long as the claim is reasonable.

If more people were prepared to actually enforce their consumer rights, we wouldn't have so many cowboy traders running around and so many large companies ignoring valid consumer complaints!
