Where to live? Working in Salford Quays

Hi,
I'm relocating from the South East and have a new job in Salford Quays. I'm moving in with my partner. I don't want to do a long commute and would prefer to drive over an unreliable train/ tram. Can anyone recommend any commutable locations to rent a property?
It needs to be in a safe area and I prefer larger properties. My partner likes Sale but I think the teeny, terraced properties might be a bit small and I'm not sure it will be an easy commute. Our budget is less than £900pcm.
Any recommendations would be massively appreciated!

Monton or Ellesmere Park?

Timperley? More value for money than Sale.
Have you looked at anywhere within Salford Quays itself?
I used to work in Manchester and its' immediate conurbations and always used public transport as the traffic can be do lally at peak times. The closer you are in the city the worser it is.
I think you'll find some terraces appear small from the outside and are deceptively larger on the inside. Punch in some commutable locations from Salford Quays on Rightmove and see what takes your fancy.
As you're coming from the South East you'll find that your money will go further.
As you're relocating from the South East to up here I have to ask are you working for the Beeb or ITV?0 -
Oh, i thought sale woild be cheaper than timperley....always thought the further south you go in trafford it broadly speaking gets pricier with a few exeptions (partington for e.g.).
I would second Monton. 10 minute drive to the quays. Worsley is nicer but probably out of your budget. Avoid eccles....not very nice imo. Lots of apartments in the quays but if you dont want a small terraced i guess you dont want apartment either though some are quite spacious/swanky. Driving from sale or timlerley to SQ in rush hour can take 45 minutes on a bad day and sometimes its just gridlock on the a56.0 -
Prestwich / Whitefield has a few people from media city living there and there are some nice places there. I liked Monton but not as much. Wherever you pick try to get close(ish) to a Metrolink station, it beats driving!0

Anywhere along the tram line is an easy commute really. I live in Altrincham and it takes about 25 min to get the tram into the town centre. Much easier than driving (and cheaper if you have to pay for parking), although my brother also lives in Altrincham and drives to Salford Quays everyday and he doesn't have too many problems.
Timperley would be more expensive than Sale IMO.
Didsbury is also decent, Northenden close to motorway and cheaper than Dids0 -

Nope, working for healthcare company who have a large office there too...
Salford Quays in general seems to be tiny tiny flats or houses, whereas we've been looking at Sale/ Timperley which have much bigger houses so think we'll end up there!0 -
I'm from there so know the area well. Trams are so much better than driving around. Salford Quays is on the tram route, so you could look at anywhere on that line, or go out towards Sale/Timperley. We stayed in Altrincham most recently and simply changed at Cornbrook.
Sale always had a better reputation than Timperley and there is a huge variety of house styles from flats to large Victorian villas. In your position, why not rent somewhere for 6 months to see how you like the area? If you hate it, move elsewhere. DH and my sister have both lived in Stockport (Heaton Moor) which has a good community feel but wasn't on the tram network then. DIdsbury is nice but pricey and student-y. Charlton is nice and trendy (and on the tram network) but check the prices - it has a reputation for burglary. The Victorian terraces across S Manchester are pretty spacious so I'd be surprised if you can't find anything suitable.0
