Car tax - 2 fines

Hi. I Moved house and updated the address on my driving licence, unfortunately I didn't realise you also had to separately tell the dvla about the address change for your car tax (seems ridiculous that their systems can't communicate but that's another issue). The reminders for my tax went to the old address. I realised I'd missed my tax, called dvla renewed it and paid the fine in May 2016. I have now received another fine for March 2016 as I was seen driving the car without tax. Do you think I have grounds to challenge this new fine? I have already paid for the offence and why have the dvla waited 5 months to penalise me for this other offence? That seems so unfair. I accept fault on the initial fine (much as i think dvla systems should be communicating). Any ideas?
Thank you
Thank you

2 totally different offences.
The first is probably something like failing to SORN your vehicle.
The 2nd is driving without valid tax0 -
Don't understand why you think two different government departments dealing with millions of records should second guess where you and your vehicle are living sorry.
As for the car, I see two issues:
1 you could SORN a vehicle leave it on private ground and pay no road tax, you didn't do that so you were fined for having an untaxed vehicle.
2 You were also caught driving an untaxed vehicle on the road which is a separate offence.
I would suggest taking this over to pepipoo they would have more experience on real fines than this forum, but I wouldn't hold much hope personally.0 -
With the address, for example my cousin and his father share the same name, my cousin moves out but does not yet have his own car, so they could end up amending his father's vehicle address.0

They must be able to 'cross reference' as my DL was up for renewal this year but was showing as my old address. As I still owned the other property I didn't notify them as I thought I'd just wait for the renewal date. I actually received the renewal at my new address ! I was then allowed to use my passport photo as well. So, it seems that they can link DL's with Passports but not vehicles ?0
