    Correct.
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 does not apply retrospectively.
However, all the act essentially did , at least in this regards, was to bring together parts of other existing legislation in an attempt to make it easier for the consumer to understand; the new act did not create or remove any existing rights or remedies in this regard (but it may have done in regards to say digital delivery)

It did actually change your rights and give you new rights as well as removing old.

Previously, you could reject goods within a reasonable time - with it being decided on a case by case basis. This could potentially mean rejecting (for a refund) winter sports equipment in winter after purchasing it in summer. Now you have a blanket 30 days to reject goods for a refund. After that originally the retailer could repair or replace as many times as they wished. Now they can only have 1 attempt at a repair or replacement before the consumer has the right to a refund again. Furthermore originally the retailer could make a deduction to the refund to account for use regardless of timeframe. Now they can only make a deduction (unless its an exempt item like motor vehicles) if its been more than 6 months.

And importantly, the consumer rights act introduces for the first time rights with digital content. Previously there was no legislation covering that and you would only be entitled to a refund if the medium on which it was provided was faulty (ie damaged disc) and not if the content itself was faulty.

There are a few other changes but those are the main ones as far as I remember.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

but would that correct itself over the course of the day?
No, if the hinges have become misaligned then they will remain so until they are corrected with a hex key. It's usually possible to close and lock the door by using a bit of brute force or physically lifting the door; this accounts for it "working properly" at other times.

This is a regular maintenance job, not a fault.
