Heavy footprint after mortgage application

Hi ,
Recently applied for a mortgage through TSB and they carried out their credit check on the same day the application went in. It reads on my experien report that they carried out six searches , P1, P2 and so on... One of the searches was labelled an 'unregistered enquiry ' with a term of 36 months at £217 per month. The latter search can't refer to a mortgage as it would be for a much longer term at alot more than £217 pcm.
Can anyone shed any light on what all this means and why so many checks?
Thanks in advance !
