Employer wanting personal info
Comments

Every 3 years we have to acknowledge and approve a 3rd party checking our details on behalf of the company, for all drivers authorised to use the vehicle (i.e. myself and SWMBO). The difference in my case is that it is a company car.0

I would not consider it my employers business to see my personal insurance, MOT, service history, etc.
If you are using your car for work purposes, then the employer has a duty of care to ensure you are doing so safely and legally. Checking that the vehicle you are using has a valid MOT and insurance is standard practice.0 -

The big problem that I see is giving a company a letter that allows them free rein to approach DVLA at any time they like for info.
There is already a process for this as used when hiring a car by providing a code. Why should you give a company care blanched to access your licence data at will?0 -

I doubt that they will have the time or inclination to check up on a daily basis. But they have to take insurance risks too - everything in the world is not personal liability. If you happen to be driving without a licence, regularly fined for drinking and driving, or don't believe in speed limits, that affects their insurance. Accidents do happen during working time, and can involve others, not just the employee. If the employee hurts someone whilst driving irresponsibly on the employers time, the employer can be held liable.0 -
I have nothing to hide. The problem I have is they want to use a 3rd party to contact DVLA, this 3rd party then have a lot of my personal data and I am concerned what they will do with it.0

Did they give you the name of the 3rd party company? (If I remember I'll check my files tomorrow to see who we use).0

What do you think they will do when they know what endorsements you have? Sell your story to the tabloids? Are you really that interesting, or perhaps just a bit paranoid?0 -

I know what you mean but these 3rd party people they are someone you don't know and all they are interested in is the information they have been asked to get.0 -
I am not paranoid and I'm not worried about anyone selling my story to the tabloids. What I am worried about is my personal data being sold on, getting into the wrong hands and getting hundreds of unwanted emails or even worse trying to be scammed. I am trying to protect myself0

Its standard stuff, I have to do it if I opt out of company car scheme.0
