Rapid weight gain all in one week

Hey guys,
Getting married soon so decided to lose some weight so I joined the gym and starting eating right. Typically my diet would consist of a smoothie in the morning (Muesli, nuts, blueberries and a banana), something random for lunch and salmon or chicken for dinner.
I was quite cocky about losing weigh as I Yo-Yo diet a lot. Started well and lost 2kg the first week and a similar number the second (starting weight was 130kg).
Got down to 125kg by the start of this week which wasn't a good one. Monday I had a steak lunch (with chips) but never had a big dinner. Tuesday I ate well. Wednesday I was travelling long distances so had a smoothie for breakfast and Chinese takeaway for dinner. Thursday (as I was out) I had a couple croissants for breakfast, what looked like Tesco party food for lunch. Friday ate healthy besides a steak dinner and Chinese chicken pieces for a snack.
Also, Saturday was not a good day consuming fizzy drinks, crisp and a burrito. Anyway, I know my calorie intake was a lot this week but when I checked the scales, I had put on 5kg! All that previous work seemingly gone. During this week I went to the gym 3 times and on the weekend had an activity day which was more running than any gym work out.
Is this normal? Last time I was on a similar diet, one "bad week" will usually result in only 2kgs at the most and this was when I was not even going to the gym.

It sounds like your initial weight loss was not a true loss, probably water rather than fat, so you've put that plus more back on this week.
Have you asked your GP what services they can offer for weight loss? At over 20 stone you're harming your body, and yo yo dieting will only add to that.0 -

I'm pretty tall so though I definitely can afford to lose weight, it's not as bad as it may seem. I'm not visibly fat, or really-fat for a better description.
I am aware of the water weight (which I don't understand too much as I am always drinking water lol) so always took the weight loss with a pinch of salt. With that said, I have visibly lost weight and last time I lost weight at such a speed, it got to a point my clothes could not physically fit me anymore.0 -
You must be really really tall then because even if you were 7'6" you'd still be overweight at that weight!
I could do with losing weight myself so have no moral high ground here but kidding yourself that 130kgs is not fat will not help you on that journey.0 -

Unless you're a giant it's fair to assume that you're classed as obese, if not morbidly obese. Unless that's all muscle, then that will be causing a lot of strain on your internal organs.
Have a chat with your doctor, and find a food plan that consistently works for you, not one you dip in and out of.0 -
My tips, stay off the scales and measure yourself, it's much more of a true reflection of how your body changes. Your weight can fluctuate everyday and it can easily become an obsession ( I binned my scales) and weigh myself at the gym once as month.
Your diet last week does not sound good and I can understand from what you have written why you have put on. I use an app called myfitnesspal to track what I eat,not all the time. I could not understand why I was not losing weight even though I was exercising 5 times a week and had cut out the rubbish from my diet. It opens your eyes to what you actually eat and the calories and macros.
In simple terms to lose weigh you need to have lower calorie intake than you are burning.0 -
My gain of 3lbs in a four day break on Ireland was the kick I needed. I acknowledged that I was heavier than in two pregnancies. Eating rubbish and too much of it.
On April 25th I read Michael Mosley's intermittent diet 5:2 book from cover to cover and OH started.
I've lost 17lb and he's lost two stone - very easily!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
To lose weight you need to be in calorie deficit, that is you consume less calories then you actually need. As others have stated your 5kg weight loss is probably down to water retention. Even drinking plenty of water you can still suffer water retention! I know I do.
Have you thought about combining a healthy, balanced diet with some form of exercise, whether it be cardio, weights or simply walks in the evening for the time being.
Myfitnesspal is a good place to start when recording how much you 'truly' eat. It certainly opened my eyes when I looked at it a few years ago. I thought I ate pretty well but these odd snacks added up. I now macro track on a daily basis and its the best thing I've done. I kept the weight off I lost, and I still have the odd treat here and there.0 -
I heartily recommend walking.
I'm 5ft11" and just over three years ago I was 17 stone 3 lbs!
Started walking at least five-six miles twice a week and cutting down on what I ate. There's nothing to stop you treating yourself periodically so long as you don't revert to bad habits (mine was Cadbury Dairy Milk 140g twice a day some days plus two packets of the 50g Mini Cheddars!!)
Since then I've gone down from an XXL/36w to an XS/28w.
Don't be disheartened if some weeks you don't lose as much as you'd like; I keep telling my Mum off for weighing herself too much.
As daft as it sounds I haven't weighed myself in ages; I can feel when I've gained a little bit (and adjust accordingly).
Best of luck to you OP.It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Smoothies are not the healthy option that they are promoted to be.
Fruit contains sugar and by blending it you are making the digestive process shorter so your body isn't working for its 'reward'.0 -
125kg is almost morbidly obese. Even if you are 7 foot tall your BMI is going to range at around 30. A BMI of 30 has a high risk for your health. Reading what you have written about your diet. It is safe to say you are not of a muscular build. Bodybuilders who weigh around the 125kg mark have high protein diets. Burrito's chocolate and crisps are not foods a muscular person would be eating.0
