Wrongly Prescribed medication
Comments

They weren't wrongly prescribed, the leaflet in the pack will have outlined possible side effects and advised you to stop taking them and go back to your doctor. They can be taken together as the leaflet advises, it's up to you to notify your GP of any of the side effects, as per the leaflet. Shame you didn't read it.0

I have COPD
I also have high blood pressure
I have Naproxen on repeat prescription at 250 MG. It's only on those times I ha pave to up the dosage to 500mg that I have to stop my blood pressure medication.
Sometimes a drug like naproxen with all its side effects is the better drug to prescribe. I know I can survive a week or 3 without my bp meds, but I might not be able to move without tha naproxen
I'm also prescribed mega courses of cortisone along with the naproxen. The pharmacist has checked and doubled checked every time with my GP and every time has dispensed the script0 -
As i said I didn't fully read the PIL.
I'm happy to take a portion of the blame but I just feel that the Medical professionals should also be aware of what they prescribe and its potential interactions.
Its not like I have made a complaint or asked for compo is it.0 -
Did you mention to the nurse that you were taking SSRI's? Or to the Dr?
Whenever a Dr or nurse prescribes medication for a member of my family that is already taking medication, I always double check that it is safe to take and I have previously had to pull a Dr up on one medication that, whilst shows no interaction, could have potentially caused a serious problem due to the way in which it worked (they are all human after all).
I also double check any over-the-counter medications as these can cause problems too.
Pharmacists can gets into a huge amount of trouble if they fail to include the information leaflet with medications each and every time that they dispense it (even if you have had the same medication for decades). It is there for you to read, It informs you what *may* be a possible side-effect and how often this may occur.
Personally, I would treat it as a lesson learnt and double check everything from now on.'We can get over being poor, but it takes longer to get over being ignorant'

Why would I need to tell the doctor or nurse what medication I am taking when it is on the screen in front of them.
What's the point of medical records if they are not looked at.
Also, how do you know that something prescribed may not agree with you until the chemist gives it to you?0 -

Why would you not check? No-one is infallible however well trained.
I am not adverse to questioning anyone, including consultants/specialists when it comes to health matters.
If you read the leaflet enclosed with the medication, you would know what side effects to watch out for. Not everyone will react in the same way to the same medication (or combination of medications).'We can get over being poor, but it takes longer to get over being ignorant'

The included PIL does not specifically mention the problem I had.

I will make sure that I fully quiz the person giving me medication in the future covering all possibilities of interaction or side effects. I'm sure the Doc wont mind me googling all the possibilities.
Lets hope your not sat in the waiting room waiting for your appointment, or even worse a child0 -
I have never come across a Dr that minds double checking for me, so yes, I would agree with fully quizzing them
The day I visit a Dr or consultant who is running on time, I will faint (even with a 5 month old so sick that she was like a rag doll in my arms)!'We can get over being poor, but it takes longer to get over being ignorant'

Are not all 5 month olds like rag dolls.
I'm glad your happy to sit there waiting for attention while I quiz the doctor about different drugs they have prescribed.
I guess you also take a laptop into the doctors room to check everything he or she says.0 -
When I had a frozen shoulder I was not given painkillers but a short course of Physio and this cured the problem in 2 weeks.0
