Hi my son 11 is starting secondary school next mounth so yesterday we went to buy all of his new uniform. I thought it would be quite expensive but it was quite cheap in my opinion. How does it compare to other schools ?

What's the school uniform policy? Do they not need shirts rather than polo tops, also do they need a school PE kit/rugby shirt. What about football boots.
£4 for school shoes but £30 for trainers, surely he's going to be wearing the shoes all day so wouldn't it have been better to spend more on the shoes.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

My daughters seconday school -
Blazer £30
tank top (jumper) £16.
Pe t-shirt £10
Skort £15.99
Blouses (has to have certain collar) 2 for £16
Trousers £16.99 per pair. Supposed to be a certain style/colour
Skirt £16.99
Only the trousers and blouses can be bought elsewhere but its difficult to find cheaper as they are certain styles.
I always buy school shoes from Clark's roughly £40 but they last all year.
Trainers are at least £50 a pair but that's cos my daughter only wants certain make/style.0 -
The school recommends plain black pumps as alternative to school shoes and I haven't bought the pe jumper yet and he's already got football boots0

The school has polo shirts not shirts0

My friend's daughter is going to secondary school in September - the PE kit alone costs £50. My son has just left secondary, and his blazers were almost £40, trousers £16 a pair, shirts £9 each. In sixth form, he needs two piece suits (I bought in a sale, but still £50-60 each) and a satchel. His tie is £7. If he does sports, the kit is £70, plus a specific bag (£18 I think) and football boots and trainers.0

Talking to a friend, a local academy needed £150 spent on uniform before they even got to the PE kit.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0

I'm glad I didn't have to buy a suit style uniform sounds very expensive0

I think you're fortunate that your son is still going to wear a polo shirt rather than shirt and tie. That there's no blazer to be bought and that the school jumpers are only £9. They start at £15 here and it's still cheaper than the schools that have blazers as uniform.
My DD's school also insists on them having white sports socks and black football socks, plus shin-pads and football boots, in addition to trainers, shorts, top and either rugby top for boys or zip up jacket for girls.
Black pumps might be fine for wandering around school, but aren't going to be suitable once the worse weather comes for travelling to and from home in.0 -
The pumps should be ok I bought him 2 pairs so hopefully they last until he breaks up for Christmas0

He also has plain black trainers that he can wear as school shoes0
