I went for a DAB unit off Ebay, the stick-on windscreen aerial was useless when the car was moving :( Had to spring for a DAB/FM aerial to replace the bee-sting on the roof, gets excellent reception.

Bluetooth speaker?! If you're changing the head unit anyway, get one with Blutooth, then you've got the option to listen to ANYTHING (iPlayer for live BBC R6, or download programmes at home and listen in the car to save data).
DAB quality is rubbish compared to lots of other stuff, but is fine for the car.

It's been totally reliable and gets a signal in all parts of the country. I play it through the car audio system via the Aux out jack.

I attached in to the dashboard with velcro. I also got the matching aerial and bought an extension aerial lead on Amazon so it could be fitted at the rear of my Mondeo.

Bear in mind that DAB quality is utter crap compared to internet radio. I used to live near an FM blackspot so I used DAB for Absolute Radio but since I've moved I can use FM with no issues and it's far superior than even the version on the London mux, which is stereo. The national mux version is mono, like most DAB stations in the UK now.
Agreed and as for D1 (nowhere near) National coverage

I should add, I got a DAB radio for about £80 4 years ago and that works well. I installed it myself as because the place I bought it from wanted and extra £50 for installation because of my car type (normally it was £20 or 30), but that only took me an hour or so. So I would suggest this route - one thing is that the signal drops out in remote areas which can be frustrating (but this is in regions where analog signals are weak anyway)
I would dispute that, perfectly reliable FM in my area with few if any dead spots but DAB is appalling. It is the usual government half arsed roll out of something ignoring too difficult to do anything about areas.

I fear then there are many parts of the country you have not visited with it ;)

On my last UK travels I gave up and reverted to R1 & R2 on FM as it was the only reliable way to receive a consistent radio coverage.

    Hi

My Mondeo comes with a DAB radio - it is fine when there is reception, but the second reception gets bad it disappears - at the moment I am driving through the countryside in Hampshire have to switch to FM as DAB is completely useless!!

So if the price is right, then fine, but if it is going to cost you way more than just going for a normal FM radio, then I'd say no.

Since I fitted my Sonichi DAB radio to my Mondeo 18 months ago, I have never had to retune back to FM. It seamlessly tunes to the various transmitters. I have yet to detect a change. I live in very rural Worcestershire and travel regularly to Greater Manchester, Nottingham, Poole and York. The only place I have found where I lose a DAB signal is part of one roundabout in Kidderminster.

I don't know if your poor reception is down to the standard Ford radio. The one fitted to my 2009 Mk4 Mondeo (non DAB Sony) has very poor reception on all wavebands, which is why I decided to try DAB in the first place.

I've got a glass mount stick on aerial. It works fine for DAB. Had to take a few panels off the dash to thread the cable up to the windscreen, but I managed it myself.
I've not had much luck with DAB radios, the buttons stop working after a while. They don't make em like they used to. JVC/Pioner/Pure all went the same way.
