sorry possibly a daft question but recarpeting full home

Options
Hello, I am wanting to re-carpet my full flat, however when looking at the fitting information on the carpet store sites, they seem to suggest that the rooms need to be completely empty - is this really the case?

Its the first time i am looking to re-carpet, and other family members seem to do it at the same time as other work (i.e bedroom carpet replacement tied into when they change the bed, lounge when new sofa needed etc?).

Has any one done it whilst not intending to replace the other furniture, the issue is there will be no way to get the corner suite out of the room due to the size of the door way to the room now the sofa is fitted together (and do not want to take it apart - wouldn't even know how!)

Would the fitter companies be able to work around this, i.e. i can easily get family members help me move it from one end of the room etc to the other through the day and so they can get to all areas - so would not even need them to move it, as i could arrange for someone else to help me.

I wouldn't want them to turn up on the day and refuse to fit it as sofa is still in the lounge (and bed in the bedroom) i could probably get most of the other furniture moved out and stored in garage etc or take it apart.

Only items we left in lounge were the sofas, fitters just moved them as they went along.
  • As long as the furniture can be moved either by the fitter or family. the carper can be fitted.

The only way you'll get a definitive answer as to whether the room must be empty or not is to speak to the supplier or fitter. You won't get that answer here.

I've never been asked to empty a room for recarpeting. I did ask last time and was told that as long as I shifted the 'clutter' (which I think was what he politely called it), there was no problem leaving the furniture. This included a heavy Victorian iron bed, which is too heavy for me to shift on my own.

Then again, I've never used one of the 'carpet sheds', who no doubt try to cut corners.

It never occurred to me to have a room anything but effort before carpets were fitted!

The separate parts often just hook together.

The chains tend to want empty rooms AND the old carpet removed before they fit (unless things have changed in recent years)

A 'local' fitter will be more obliging and provide the service most people actually need/want for this type of job.
