And there are extremely good sites giving this information which can be found by searching the web - these would give a much better explanation than you'd get through replies on a forum.0 -

I suspect that the OP is getting the sort of answers that he is is because most people suspect it's a windup, either that or they are wondering why he doesn't just use google like most people would.
I disagree, and think that's very judgemental. Some people just have knowledge in different fields. Saying someone is dumb or badly educated, because they are not sure about something you find obvious, is pretty rude.A friend who has Coeliac disease was offered biscuits with her tea on her first day of work. .
I agree that people have knowledge in different fields, and we can't all be good at everything or have knowledge in every field. However, if a 17 year old doesn't know what money they use in Liverpool, then IMO there is something fundamentally wrong with their education. Call it rude if you like, but that's just my opinion.0 -
I work with a woman who thought test tube babies stayed in the tube until 'ready' and then kind of climbed out. So I have heard and seen all sorts.
I'm currently pregnant and at my last scan we saw baby swallowing amniotic fluid. Very cute it was too.0 -
The umbilical cord acts is a system of delivring nutrients, and of removing waste products. As the baby develops, they do start swallowing some of the amniotic fluid, practicing sucking and breathing for when they are born. A poo (a very odd, black sticky mess instead of the runny yellow stuff newborns usually producr after that) builds up and that will in most cases, be excreted after birth.
Not everyone knows much about biology. My biology teacher in high school was very religious and glossed over much of the reproduction aspects, because she didn't believe in it. Not sure how she got that job. I think it's a good thing that the OP is searching for answers to these questions, lots of people just don't care wat the answer is!
A friend of mine is pregnant and told me she was very worried about her bellybutton, which was sore, in case it meant there was something wrong with the baby. She seemed surprised to learn that her bellybutton wasn't at all connected to her baby! It's not even her first baby.

I remember thinking that when the first test tube baby was born - but I was only in primary school! I had to ask my mum what a test tube was, because I had never heard of one. When she explained, I asked how the baby fitted into it. Fortunately she was able to give an explanation i was happy with, but I can't remember what it was.0 -
Really? Ok. Here's a fantastic lay explanation, that's actually interesting even if Google is your friend: http://www.askdramy.com/Chap28.html
To answer the other question about poo, a foetus does not derive its sustenance by eating -- metabolic waste is removed in part through the umbilical cord and in part through the kidneys as they develop. However, it does swallow amniotic fluid (and everything floating in it) and digest them, which is normally kept back until after the baby is born. If it's passed before birth, it means either that they are distressed or are post-dates, neither of which is good!
Do during labour the waste switches from going out the umbilical cord to going out the bum. Lots of babies do their first poo on the way out.0 -

In that case she is more to be pitied than laughed at.0 -

Its usually a sign of the baby being in distress. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
