After extensive googling im still not sure of the answer to this,
i have just moved, in my old place i had cable broadband supplied
via a cable modem and my wireless router which is a Safecom SWBR-5400,
My new place isnt cabled so i have to get ADSL broadband, my
question is will my old router work or should i order a new
wireless router along with the broadband. My old one does have an ADSL - RJ-11 ( WAN ) port, so i wonder if that means it would be ok or if it wouldnt work as a standalone.
Many thanks!

Providing your new ADSL modem has an Ethernet port, you can connect it to your wireless router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I was in exactly the same situation. You don't need to buy a new wireless router, just a modem with ethernet to replace the free one. I got a D-Link DSL-300G+ second hand on ebay for £7.0

Thanks Chardir, that's better than the £40 for the new router (so many costs involved in moving as it as!) so does your modem with ethernet port connect directly to the wireless router?
I dont want to work via the PC, as i have more than one PC on my network, and it might be a pain to have to boot up the one the modem was connected to if OH was using his PC.
Thanks.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
The modem no longer connects to any PC, it connects directly to your wireless router via Ethernet and would be left on 24/7. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

you can get new wireless routers with built in modem (adsl) for approx 20/30 quid these days.
SH ones on ebay are very cheap too.
think id rather get one of those, than another modem.Get some gorm.0 -
