I don't hardly ever sell on eBay - but if I did, I'd always post signed for.

Surely that would depend on the value of the item you have sold.
  • A slightly different take on this...

As you have tracked delivery which shows as delivered, you don't have a problem on eBay. The buyer disputes delivery. You can take this up with Hermes.

This really comes down to can you back up your claim with Hermes with the cost price of the item, bearing in mind that if you didn't take out extra cover, then it's only up to £25 and in any case, only up to the cost price, not the sale price.

Hermes will pay out after 4 or 5 painful messages. They then have their own internal system to deal with the customer and they do black list addresses, I've seen it more than once. Then the customer has a painful problem.

It maybe that you are better off standing your ground, this is just the flip side.

    Thank you for the replies.
I am a registered business seller on eBay. - (very small time but I do declare it all.)
Does this make a difference to her claim?

No. Although the buyer probably thinks they have a better chance of forcing you to refund.

She actually sells far more than I do and is a private seller.
I honestly think she's a scammer. She's been left feedback by others who have bought from her saying she's a nasty piece of work and to avoid, and I'm pretty sure the Hermes screenshots had been doctored.
It ended with "please contact the sender for further compensation"...and it was cropped at that point so I couldn't see the rest of it. I think there's a good chance it originally said information not compensation. That makes more sense.
I'm going to ignore her and see what happens..
Thank you all for your advice. Much appreciated :)
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.

I wonder what the relevance of this statement is? Obviously any sellers that uses ebay a lot understands the postage requirements- which are unlikely to mean signed for is rarely cost effective on low value items, but more importantly the whole point of this thread is that item is tracked and shows delivered- which is what is required for ebay/paypal, signed for is not an ebay/paypal requirement and would not be helpful here anyway.

If you do decide to sell on ebay you might want to have a read of the sticky postage thread.

Like I said - Hermes showed delivered to my house on Sunday at about 5pm. It was actually delivered the following Thursday.
    Hermes tracking doesn't mean much.
