Argos card drama

I applied for an Argos store card (Home Retail Group) about 3 weeks ago and was accepted straight away. My card arrived last week with a credit limit of £750. I made one purchase in the store a few days ago for £14.99. Today I couldn't log into my Argos card account which I set up and called them to find out why..
Turns out my account has been cancelled due to failing the credit check and they will send statement soon with remaining balance to pay.
Why the hell have they sent a card out and allowed me to spend on it? Aren't they supposed to do credit checks before issuing customers with credit? So confusing and disappointing as this was my first card and thought I was on my way to building good credit for myself.

It happens, many posts on here about credit cards with Barclays often slated for this very practice, you will have passed automated systems but somewhere a human has reviewed your account and decided against issuing you an account or an automated feed info has spooked them. I'd raise a complaint and see if they can give you more details.

They really shouldn't issue you a card and limit, let you spend then turn around and say you've failed a credit check. All that should be done before.
I'm fine with getting a no, I'm not fine with being accepted, allowed to spend, then denied. It's playing games with people.0 -

John is right, this practice happons. I completely understand your frustration, but log a complaint with Argos Customer Service, preferably in writing/emailTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0
