    Even without toasting. one or two slices will defrost at room temperature in only a few minutes.

    Agree with keeping it in the freezer or storing something non perishable in that space.
    I had my bread bin in exactly the same kind of space and the bread went mouldy far, far faster than it normally would.

    Bread stored in a fridge will go stale far quicker than bread left at room temperature.
    It won't go mouldy but it will dry out and become hard in a much shorter time.

    Never found that to happen to mine. It lasts very well in the fridge inside a poly bag.
