When I turn my laptop on I can see the screen saver but there is no login showing. There is a cursor which I can move with the mouse but can't find a way for it to show the the section where I need to enter my password
Any ideas, using W10 which worked fine. but been having issues with the latest update.
Thanks

Does the keyboard work? Ctrl-Alt-Delete OR Enter key should bring up the password box. Then the tab key should tab between fields. If the keyboard isn't working connect an external keyboard.
Or you'll need to go back to the previous build; without being able to restart in Safe mode (restart+shift key) you'll need a "repair" or Windows 10 boot disk/USB.0 -
No enter didn't work nor ctrl-alt-delete, I had tried those.
Just plugged in an external keyboard and still nothing
I don't have a repair disk, I fully understand this is my fault, however it is still very annoying. I didn't ask for the windows 10 update it just happened and has broken a perfectly adequate laptop which is only just over a year old.
Could I purchase a repair usb (would need to be a usb as no disc drive on the laptop)? if so where from? Would it be worth contacting Microsoft? I suppose they would just say the same I should have made a repair usb, true but it is still their update that has broken it :mad:0 -
I have found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Windows-10-64-Bit-8GB-Bootable-USB-Flash-Drive-NO-LICENCE-KEY-INCLUDED/231928334938?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D38052%26meid%3D7f16fbfa144a45df91e8dd8c6e8d12b6%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D232047641750
would this work? I don't understand where it says open in BIOS, I don't think I can do this as I can't see how to shut the laptop down to re-start. pressing the on/off button just puts it to sleep so it keeps going back to the blank screensaver with no option to press F2 before it re-starts.0 -
Strange that the mouse worked though. What about Safe mode? Must be way to get there...iammumtoone wrote: »No enter didn't work nor ctrl-alt-delete, I had tried those.

For a boot USB you need Rufus and build 1511 (have you access to another computer?)

It works, I fixed it :T
I took the battery out and put it back in again
I should have thought of that before I posted.
Thanks for all your help, I now need to make a back up USB, would I be better doing it from the laptop or following the link you provided?0 -
You can make a repair/boot USB in windows10. (And a backup if you have big enough USB/external drive)0

I had a similar problem and as soon as I got back into windows 10 I opted for the "no password" option on the set up, just in case of future problems on updates.0

just did the same, thank you. I have also gone back to the version of W10 before the update, seems to be working better now.0 -
I would also suggest turning off 'Fast Startup' .
Otherwise, Shut down isn't a true Shut Down, which makes it harder to escape from problems like this.
