Changing contraception due to age.

I have been on the depo provera injection for a while ,no problems at all, but have been told I have to stop as I will be 50 soon, and general advice is to stop at that age.
I will be going on the mini-pill (zelleta)on a 3 month trial to see how I get on with it, and was just wanting to know if anyone else has done this, and what their experience was of it?
Obviously not asking for medical advice, just `reviews`, as it were.

Zelleta is the cheaper version of Cerazette. No personal experience of it but there are several threads about it on netmums.
There is also the Mirena coil if that might work for you.0 -
I had to come off the combined pill and go on the mini pill due to age. I went on cerezette and it did not agree with me at all. I had constant bleeding for 3 months. It was the best contraception in the world as I didn't have any sex on it!!! But.... I have friends on it who don't have any periods at all. So I say give it a try and see.0

This is what i`m hoping won`t happen after so long with no bleeding whatsoever ! Did you have to change to another type of contraception or did the bleeding settle down ?0 -
I don`t blame you, it sounds like you had an awful time with it! Fingers crossed I`m okay when i`m on it.0

I am unable to take the combined pill anymore due to my age (only 31) and family history of DVT.
I tried the copper coil for 3 months but had excessively heavy bleeding, longer periods and severe pain so I had it removed.
I was then prescribed the mini pill - I'm just starting my 5th month on Cerelle (which I believe is also a cheaper version of Cerazette) and my "review" is below.
When I first started taking the pill, it was on the first day of a normal period. I found that it reduced both the flow and length of the period significantly. I then had very small amounts of spotting but no other period for 6 weeks. During this time, I had very swollen and painful breasts and had quite a few breakouts in areas of the face where I've never had spots before (I assume this is all down to the changing hormones).
My 1st period whilst on the mini pill was heavier than normal (but no pain at all) and lasted 6 days (I'm a 3 days kinda girl usually). This was then followed by around 3 weeks of intermittent spotting, which was frustrating, then another normal period followed by 2 weeks of no bleeding at all. My skin had settled down by this stage.
My next period arrived a week early and lasted FOUR weeks . It got heavier and then lighter and then heavier again during the 4 weeks but was a definite period. Since that ended (which was just over a week ago), I've had no bleeding or spotting.
They do say that it can take up to 6 months for your body to get used to the mini pill so I still have no idea whether I'm going to have regular periods no periods or irregular periods on it yet. Fingers crossed that the 4 weeker was the last upset and my body will now settle down.
In all honesty, because I'm single at the moment and I use a menstrual cup, it hasn't been that big a deal for me during the settling period but I can imagine that the uncertainty would be annoying for somebody in a relationship.0 -
I am not allowed on combined pill anymore after PE.
But it was a super effective contraceptive for me when I was on it- if anyone came near me I wanted to hit them with an axe.0 -
I have just had the implant fitted last week and will be having my coil removed soon .
I wanted something i could just forget about once its in.I don't know how it will effect my periods until the coil has been removed though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
