Question re banking and browsers.
Usually i use chrome and or firefox i also use "eset smart security" my version of eset was quite old anyway i got a free upgrade to v9 today and there is a specific banking and protection tool which apparently open's a secure browser for you to bank in, is this anymore secure than a normal browser page?
Does anyone here use this for their banking or are you happy with the secure padlock in a normal browser? any and all opinions welcome.
thanks

I am happy to accept the padlock and I use Chrome.
I have not heard of the eset smart security - personally I would not load it anyway.0 -

Ah sorry should of said eset smart security is simply nod32 av plus more similar to kaspersky etc0 -
Well I have used the free AVG anti virus for years - no problems with that.
I never click on a link to any financial institution I have accounts with and always check for the padlock.0 -
A private browsing mode perhaps?
A browser different than Chrome, Firefox, IE/Edge, Safari such as Opera?
Ghostery?0 -
I'm content to set security to the highest level in IE then allow certain specific sites through. Does hamper sign-ups on occasion if I forget to add sites to the safe list first. I'll take that slight negative though.0

I use the secure browser in Kaspersky Internet Security for most financial sites.0 -
There's probably no major advantage to using a browser from your internet security company, and probably quite a few disadvantages.
Chrome, Firefox etc are under active development and receive security fixes and new security features regularly. They're also tested extensively for security issues. It's doubtful that any smaller web browser, even one from a security company, would get this kind of support and testing.
Additionally, some of these "secure" browsers have proved themselves to be nothing of the sort. See here for example: http://thehackernews.com/2016/02/comodo-web-browser-security.html
I get the impression that these "secure" browsers only exist to tick a box on a marketing sheet, and don't actually bring any benefit to their users. Use Chrome instead.0 -
I don't use any of the features in eset smart security so can't comment directly. However I use and have used eset home and work for many years and recommend it to clients. It's one of the best AV packages and consistently wins awards.
I wouldn't have any problem using something Eset have written, but doubt it's giving you much more than you already have. Keep your AV up to date and check the web address and the green/padlock symbol.
Eset/NOD32 is light years ahead of the freebies like Avast and AVG by the way so stick with it.0
