formal letter of claim from Wright Hassall

Options
Hi,
can someone please help....

My friend and co-owner of my house moved to Dubai last year. A letter plopped through the door a few weeks back that I accidentally opened (normally her mail just get piled up as all relevant people/agencies know she is in Dubai) and it was a Formal Letter of Claim from Wright Hassall from operator Comprehensive Management Services LTD. demanding £196, saying the payment is long overdue and threatening a Judgement order (she doesn't earn in the UK) or Warrant of control (only thing she has left in the house is socks, jumpers and books!! oh, and lots of junk mail.) She does however have her car here as she got a finance agreement before she knew she was leaving - she left it for me as I needed a bigger car for my twins, but is still very kindly paying the finance)
What do i do? I don't want her to get a CCJ, i don't want bailiffs coming to my families home with my toddlers here, however I cannot afford that money! she is currently in Africa doing charity work also, so i cant even contact her. I have 14 days........

Give them her address in Dubai, if a Court Claim comes you will have to reply that she is out of jurisdiction giving Dubai address. Make the letter short, The Registered Keepers address is nothing more.

Bit naughty of them threatening things like that. It's not something you can simply do. Most of the hollow threats just go on about CCJs, (which you can't just apply for), let alone some of the possible steps that could follow (though unlikely).

I'm sure such language is contrary to the solicitor's code of practice. Probably worthy of a complaint to the SRA.
