changing files from bmp to jpeg please help

i have scanned some photos with my scanner and they come up as bmp,i have looked online and downloaded software to change them from bmp to jpeg,can someone tell me why i am having trouble doing this,i want to change them to jpeg before putting them on cd and emailing them and also getting prints from online photo stores but i am stuck in changing the format,i have over 200of them to change and want to change all at once rather than one at a time

try irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/ then click on file, batch conversion. Select your files, select bmp as the current graphics format and jpeg as the output and away you go.

In case anyone else has this problem, a really good, very simple program that converts bitmap (BMP) files to JPEG format is 'Peg-It. Just copy and paste the bitmap image, and it shows you a preview of the original and the compressed JPEG, with a slider at the top of the window so you can adjust the compression ratio and instantly see the result.
