So...my car's first MOT is due on 1 November - what is a reasonable amount to save for this? I know it's a how long is a piece of string question... I guess maybe £300???

My Micra was just over £200. MOT and three new tyres. We checked the car over for all things that could be easily repaired like lights from this list. (Link) If a garage replace your wipers it could be £20, but far cheaper to do it yourself.

  • Hi guys happy weekend! Got back from camping on weds and keep trying to post but always something else to do!

So our 2nd freezer got delivered on Friday and is now set up in the garage. I'm trying out only grocery shopping every 2 weeks now I have more space for bread and milk :T Suspect it'll take refining the art. So far have enough main meals for 2 weeks, but imagine fruit, more milk and bread, and sandwich fillers will be needed in the latter part of the fortnight. Spent €53 so fR. The quest to. Reduce the go bill continues! Also thinking if I can do this I can probably reduce the days I spend any obey to 2 a week. I'm such a frugal geek!

Yesterday I finally made the blackberry must for my first attempt at wine making :j

    Small plans for the day:

Put sugar and yeast in the blackberry must
Take a few items to the tip
    All meals from stores
    Hm grown veg with roast
Dgd going out swimming with da so we will have a couple of childfree hours :D
Make courgette cake to use up courgettes and eggs
Make packed lunches/dgd's bag ready for tomorrow (I have a day's work temping at oh's work)
Do some tidying up in garden
    Feed veggies

Ok that'll do! Hope you are all happy and well x

    Hi August Awesome-ees,

Finally it's my weekend. Not the greatest of starts to the day: turned the tv on and "pffft" the power died on it. Have emailed a local repair guy for a quote. If it's the capacitor gone they're 69p in Maplins. I had to work hard to not jump into the car and drive to Curry's for a new set. There was a new tv for "only" £99 but I resisted. We shouldn't send the tv to landfill. The built in DVD player doesn't work so maybe we can get that fixed too. In the meantime DW's PC monitor is also a tv so that is set up in the Sitting Room.

Watching Olympics in between cooking today. I haven't had an appetite all week so I'm hoping this will help.

Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Two:

    * Check broadband allowance.

    * Use Andrew Johnson's new, free meditation MP3 "Quiet Mind".

    * Do RMS Surveys.

    * Cook lots of things, details later.

    * Cleaned out the fridge. Froze some leftover pitta breads. Identified sorry-looking items to be curried later.

    * Walked to local farmers' market even though it was raining. Bought some local sausages but kept spends to £5.

    * Made soup from lentils and meat scraps. Add home-grown potatoes.

    * Add a splash of condensed milk to coffee for a luxury.

    * Made lasagne and added homegrown spinach. Add mushroom scraps. Put in freezer for next week.

    * Made chicken curry.
Put in freezer for next week.

    * Prepped homemade KFC for dinner tonight.

    * Cleaned the kitchen(!) with Startdrops, washable cloths and elbow grease.

Live long, live well and prosper.

    Hi guys

Thanks everyone re the MOT - Ally, I will have a wee nosey at that link. We need new tyres and I'll get them first - £175 for 4 fitted (did a comparison on black circles.com)

Sounds fab about the freezer DNMS!! You are a frugal star! :D

I'm gardening mainly today. OH has converted me into a gardening geek. :) I am actually really enjoying it. I was looking at the veg trugs and I've just seen from the lovely ziggy on fb that they have a competition, so I shall enter that and see if I can win one. :)

Need to collect BIL's bday pressie that I ordered yesterday and get coffee for home.

Also need to go to @ldi for a wee top-up shop before the week ahead.

    Happy Sunday!
    xx

    Morning all,

Very productive day yesterday but I am feeling it today!

    Today I have/will:-
    • Ordered another garden waste bin, £10 for the year & will be cheaper than getting a skip/doing multiple trips to the tip. We have one bin already but it's just not clearing it fast enough as it's only collected every fortnight
    • Attempting to make use of a glitch to get £25 worth of clothes but it's not loading, I must be too late & they've taken it down or there are just that many others trying the same & overloading the site!
    • Check online banking & moved funds around
    • Check free postcode lottery
    • All meals from stores
    • Another load of washing on eco setting using less than recommended dose of washing liquid
    • Hang up to dry
    • Enter some more competitions
    • Tidy round the house today & hopefully get some decluttering done

Have a great, MSE day everyone x

Update:- The glitch worked! I'm guessing lots of people have given up trying (although it was painstakingly slow still & I had to keep refreshing the page...) but just got £45 worth of maternity clothes for just over £20 :j Hoping they honour it now.

For anyone that wants to try it, go to http://10ws.co/2aTqXlv Register an account and use code STAYWITHUS for £25 off a £25 spend.

    Hi All

    So far this morning

    * OH is repairing a puncture on our buggy tyre. Saving on a new tyre.
    * DS is playing on a computer game bought from CEX at a fraction of the full price, plus when finished with it he will trade it in again.
    * Am feeding DD her lunch. All cooked previously and can be buffet style over a few days. She has pieces of pasta, brocoli, & salami. Plus grated cheese from a YS bag we bought with £1 off & a tiny amount of chocolate digestive for her pudding. We've steered away from baby food as a concept. Expensive and wasteful.
    * Washing is out to line dry.
    * DS has written 1 page of his holiday diary which we all sat down and helped him to 'storyboard' then he wrote it himself. Less money saving but time effective & good family time too.
    * Tried to have 2 reciepts added on but they had expired
    * Put cheque to pay in into envelope and will send that in a moment. Might let DD walk to the post box with me for exercise :)
    * Walked to shops and back this morning

    Think thats it :)
