Reccommendation for P4 Motherboard

I need to buy a new motherboard and/or processor.

Amazon have a good few INTEL boards that will support a 3GHz Pentium 4, priced at around £50 to £60, including video and sound (which I need) but the spec of them all looks identical.

Can anyone recommend a particular board? Does not have to be Intel brand but some other major player (eg Gigabyte or Abit) would be ok.

Thanks.

I have the ASUS P4C800-E Great board but maybe over your budget at just ocer £100.

I would highly recommend Asus boards though.

I have a machine that has died and it is not clear if it is processor or motherboard. It gets as far as trying to initialise the on-board USB but then hangs. Will not even go to CMOS settings.

Hence, I can replace processor, motherboard or maybe both and have the choice from scratch. Been a while since I replaced a motherboard as it is often cheaper now to just buy another PC, so what is the difference/advantage of 478 and 775 etc?

    Thanks for any help

Have you tried clearing the CMOS ?(the settings can corrupt). Turn power off, unplug the psu, set CMOS jumper accordingly. To be doubly sure also pull the CMOS battery out and leave it out for 1/2 to 1 hour.

Put it back in, switch the CMOS jumper back to it's normal setting, plug in and switch on. It will give an error / warning about the CMOS settings. Go into the BIOS screen and put the appropriate settings in.
