Mac display connection?

'Buy an Apple' they said. 'It just works' they said. ;)

I've bought a mac mini and an Apple 23" display. The connector on the display's lead is a big oblong thing and the one on the computer is much smaller. Are these two compatible using some sort of adaptor or converter, pls? Thanks

'A big oblong' - Google 'DVI' - is that what you mean? A white rectangle?

I assume (they've been making Mac Minis for 10 years with lots of different connectors) it's a new Mac mini, and it'll be HDMI, so yes, you can get an HDMI to DVI converter.

If not, let us know which Mac Mini it is (Goto the apple logo at top left of the desktop, click it, click 'About this Mac').

Ah thanks for that. Man alive! I had no idea there were so many types. Think I might need to post pictures to get the board's help with identification..

Edit - ah you posted while I was typing almillar, thanks will check.

If you have not found a suitable cable, I believe that this here is an example of what you require.

Only if OP has a specific Mac Mini, which he he/she has not specified. There are many different vid outputs on the various Mac Minis over the years, including plain old HDMI in the latest ones.

If it's a Mac Mini from 2010 (or later) it'll be HDMI instead of Mini DVI.

OP will probably need something like this: http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MJVU2ZM/A/apple-hdmi-to-dvi-adapter (obviously they'll be cheaper than £25 elsewhere)

I take it the display connector on the mac mini is the one below the 5" marker on the tape?

Actually the one below about 4.25" looks like the connector Rubidium linked to...

and the display's flying plug might fit the apple one 20aday linked to...

Yes it looks like you'll need a Mini DisplayPort to DVI cable.
