Scottish Power - false advertising??

I recently tried to change my Electricity supplier via this website. After finding a fantastic deal with Scottish Power I submitted an application and after a few weeks received a Welcome pack including the following leaflet (requires Adobe pdf reader) http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pricing_pdfs/ole/olesaver4.pdf
According to this for Southern I have a choice of 1-rate or 2-rate, I require the second due to Economy 7 heating.
Days after the welcome pack, I receive a letter saying that due to my current meter Scottish Power can not supply me. I telephoned the number supplied, and was told it was because I use Economy 7 night rate and unless I ask my current supplier to change me to a single meter I would not be able to move.
Anyone else had this experience? Scottish Power are advertising a 2-rate scheme, they have very good prices (they come top on all of the search sites linked from the main page).
Is this false advertising?? Although I have to say they do not seem to gain anything from this.. they "made arrangements for me to stay with my current supplier"

Welcome to the forum.
It is not clear what you(they) mean by a single meter. Have you got separate meters for E7 and daytime electricity? The more modern types are a single meters with 2 displays.
Could this be the reason?
I would write(don't telephone) to them for clarification and say you will take up the matter with Energywatch and Advertising Standards Authority.0 -
Thanks for the reply Cardew, in 2 seconds you made more sense than 20 minutes on the phone to a representitive of SP did. I will check to see if I have 2 meters, or 1 meter with a dual display. I knew someone here would be able to make sense of it!
Great site!0 -
Katnipdatroll - Scottish Power have an Economy7 tarriff and fully support 2 rate meters. However, if you do have two meters for you Eco7, this would mean that your property has two meter point reference numbers (MPAN).
Scottish Power are unable to support double MPAN's in some areas.0
