BoS Mortgage PPi? Being ignored :(

I had a mortgage with Bank of Scotland from November 1997 to July 2005 but I have no records left of the account number. I have written to the lender using the template letter with no response and then (in desperation) tried a PPi reclaim service. After 5 months they have said that the lender has no record of me. Is this a common fob off? Surely they must be able to search using the address of the mortgaged property?? Any help most gratefully received, thank you.

Is this a common fob off?
It is unlikely to be a fob off. This is over 10 years ago since account closed and records only need to be maintained for 6 years. If you have an ongoing relationship with the bank, they are likely to retain records longer but if you have no current relationship with the bank then they are likely to destroy records. If you used a broker for the mortgage then there would be very few records (and no PPI liability for the lender).
If you do not believe them or want them to search deeper then pay £10 and do a data subject access request.
If you are fishing and dont even know if you had MPPI, then do remember that most MPPI complaints are rejected. The banks never sold single premium MPPI. So, that isnt an issue either. If you used a broker then the bank doesnt have liability for anything sold by the broker.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
