Bt phone line

I have a bt phone line but Virgin fibre optic broadband as the Mrs works for sky and it's all free but sky broadband was no good so got Virgin
Since 6/14 we've been with Virgin and I contacted bt as I've never used the phone line etc to make or receive calls . In 6/15 bt told me I need the phone line . I contacted Virgin recently and they said that's incorrect , bt have now said they will refund me a years line rental £230 . Should I accept as I've basically beeh paying for 2 years for a service I've not used or required
When I challenged bt they said you won't get anymore money from ombudsman or small claims court . I pay by direct debit through my bank should I get them to pursue on my behalf ?

Yes accept the refund. You don't need a BT line if you have Virgin.0

So you've paid for 2 years phone rental to BT, and BT have only offered a refund of 1 year's charges?
Your complaint appears to centre on the fact you tried to cancel your BT line 2 years ago, but were incorrectly advised by BT at that time that you still needed it to obtain broadband (despite your Virgin broadband being supplied entirely by Virgin owned cables)
If you have the evidence to prove this (and have not used the BT phone line to make or receive calls), then I would suggest to continue to press for 2 years refund (ask for interest too, but you might not get this). The problem is if you don't have the evidence. I'm not sure BT will still have a recording of that call from 2 years ago, and even if they do, unless you get a copy they will simply deny your version of accounts and tell you that you are wrong.:mad:
It costs nothing to go to the ombudsman service, and although if you do, the current refund offer will pribably be withdrawn by BT, it would be rather unusual even if the ombudsman were not on your side in regards the 2 years refund, for them not to award at least the 1 years refund BT have already offered you.0
