£3 Over my agreed credit card limit

Found out last night I went £3 over my credit card limit with Capital One, it wasn't due to purchases I had made but a hidden processing fee by the merchant of £3 I wasn't aware off. I paid £20 via my debit card to get it out the red, is this really going to effect me now?
I'm gutted this has happened as I've only recently been able to get a credit card.

Is it a actual charge or a authorisation that drops off?
If the latter they wont take it into consideration0 -
I guess you'll need to wait and see how Cap1 deal with it, but if the merchant genuinely didn't make it clear that there was a surcharge for paying by CC then it would be worth complaining to them as this will be against the relevant rules and regs about accepting payments by card.
And, at the risk of stating the obvious, don't run your card so close to the limit - if a £3 charge took you £3 over then clearly you must have literally been right on the limit - apart from the risk of going over (and the need to have a buffer for over-limit fees, etc), having a balance of 100% of your limit won't look good on credit files and could hinder your chances of limit increases or further cards if that's where you want to go....0 -

For all we know the op has a £500 limit and was buying a one of item at £500, and doesn't normally use the credit card.0 -
shouldn't look bad on your credit file but if you do get a charge always worth ringing up and explaining and asking them if they'll take it off as the worst they can do is say no0

Hi,
Called them today I think they are based in Thailand but the customer service is excellent with Capital One. They did advise no charges are showing and because I made a debit card payment today, no charges will be added to the account and she would make a note on my file. I learnt a big lesson today, I found out it was an overseas retailer and in the small print they charge a £3 debit/credit card fee for all transactions so thats whats stung me.0
