Old Style Daily Friday 12th August

O/S Daily Thread for Friday12th August This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread dumpling.
Despite the awful rain yesterday I had a lovely time with my visitors and had a late night too. For our evening meal we went to an hotel which is across the bay from me which serves mainly seafood. As I don't eat fish at all I had a steak - now I'm not usually keen on steak but this was the best I've ever had.
More rain and cloud today, still can't see Jura at all and its bloomin huge, with more rain due today. We're off this morning to Ben Cruachan hydro electric power station for the guided tour and lunch. Then I think we'll drive back via Inveraray Castle. My friends will be leaving early tomorrow for their five hour drive home.
I hope everyone has a good Friday.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I couldn't see today's thread so I hope no one minds if I start it.
It's very grey here this morning, I don't think it is meant to rain but you never know. Hubby and the girls are fast asleep. Poor hubby has been really poorly for the past few days with stomach cramps and an upset tum. I hope he will feel better today as I am not a good nurse
.
I embraced my inner squirrel yesterday and ordered a load of tins and packets to store for the winter in case of bad weather. The girls think I am bonkers, "Mum, it's August!" they chorused but I feel that it is going to be a bad year and although we rarely get snow, when we do everything just grinds to a halt. I will add flour and yeast a bit nearer to the winter time as well.
I did jacket potatoes and fillings yesterday and there are a few left so that's my lunches for the next couple of days sorted. Tonight I will be making a full English for tea and hopefully hubby will be well enough to have some. It won't be too bad as I grill everything and have loads of mushrooms and tomatoes with it.
My lovely friend is coming to take me to her house for a change at 11am. I am quite excited to see her house as it has changed since the last time I went there. My eldest DD is dropping the grandchildren off at 10 as she needs to take her dress and get it taken up before the wedding next Friday. Fortunately the girls will be here to babysit if she isn't back before I go out.
Well that's it for me for now. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Looks to be a nice day here again off to work for me today and its an event day so will be busy but its Friday and takeaway and wine night best night of the week
Ive got to take my car in tomorrow to get the exhaust done they have ordered the parts so should not take too long.
I need to start getting tea bags etc for our holiday so might do that while car is in, there is a Lidl just over the road
Jackie O have a great holiday with your tribe xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, thanks for the thread dumpling X
Lovely and bright here and it's set to be 24 degrees later. Ds1 will be back to labouring this morning. Currently still in bed but I'm going to call him again in 5 mins! They said he worked very hard for his money which is good.
Last night I made macaroni cheese and then a waffle berry dessert from the grocery challenge recipe list. It was delicious, and there's some left for tonight yum. We will have SW sweet chilli chicken with rice and veg tonight.
I'm at the church this morning sorting messy church resources with a volunteer, then we are going for lunch in the town. Have put a wash on, so DH will peg that out. No news on his interviews
Hope you all have a good day.

Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 up and gone to work. DS2 still in his pit, but he will be getting up shortly as he's coming food shopping with me first thing.
Now light, bright and sun shining - forecast is for a good day, by the end of yesterday it had started to feel warmer again too. Did get a line of washing dry yesterday afternoon,
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, black pudding, mushrooms and beans, tonight i'm not sure what we're having as we're visiting the outlaws as it's FIL's birthday today, it will either be takeaway or something and chips.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got the ironing all done, did several jobs on the pc, made some telephone calls, all household things that needed sorting. Managed to get the big car booked in for a free small service and MOT tomorrow (Saturday) morning, this helps so much as DH can take it with me following to then bring him home. Today I'll be heading to the SM shortly, last week we got there and it was early and it was excellent, shelves all stacked and we were in and out in well under an hour - hoping it's going to be the same this week, we'll see!
We have a few chores to do this weekend, so we'll work our way through them steadily, nothing to major.
I have an beautician appointment later, so look forward to getting that done.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Still very blowy here and the sky looks none too promising either. Looking forward to the return of the summer that's forecast (if it happens!)
We had a lovely gettogether last night for DGDs 12th birthday. Once again the Balti House did us proud and everyone enjoyed their meals and this time I left room for a delicious pud! It wasn't a late night as DD, BF and the girls are leaving for their holiday this morning. It's a long drive to Southampton from hereabouts so they are all staying in a hotel there for the night and booked on the 8.00 a.m. IOW ferry in the morning. The same big group of friends all meet up for the same two weeks every year. It'll be nice to meet them all when we go down next week as I've heard so much about them all over the years.
Well after three days and two nights of DGD minding this week the house looks like a bomb has dropped so the much needed Friday clean round is on the agenda for today. Followed by a quick trip down to Aldi later to stock up supplies and drop our script requests in at the surgery on the way.
There's some bacon in the fridge that needs eating up so that will be lunch with an egg, tomatoes and some mushrooms that are living on borrowed time! Like Dumpling, everything will be grilled! Not christened tonight's meal yet.
Have a good day if you can. LAINEY fingers crossed for your mum's appt today. JACKIE have a lovely holiday and safe journey. (If I see you next week on the Island I'll give you a wave!) CSARINA look after yourself as well as your DH. (((HUGS))) to anyone else in need and AOD hope you are feeling better. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Yesterday was not a brilliant day, but at least after throwing my toys out the pram, hopefully I will get some help.
OH got up after his supper for a couple of hours, watched tv and then back to bed. Now I am doing his injections I am going to move them back slowly to 6 pm at night. He is still asleep and I am still in bed. Will do breakfast in bed and then I will get up. I want to get him up for an hour or so this morning and then again after supper.
Friday clean to do, also could do with putting a load of laundry on, might leave that and do it tomorrow.
I am afraid the garden I'd going to pot just now, I need to conserve my energy a bit.
Jackie I hope you have a great holiday with your family on IOW.0 -
Morning everyone,
Thanks for thread Dumpling hope you enjoy your visit.
Blue sky and sunny here, we are set for a warm one.
Need to pick Mum up just after 11am, she phoned last night to say she had arranged to stay at the hospital after the appointment. One of her best friends ( the poor lady who lost her leg ) is being moved from the hospital at the weekend, she is going into a nursing home near Oxford to be nearer her family. One of Mum's other friends is meeting her there and will then take her home. Must admit am a little anxious about this as don't know what we are going to be told but we will see.
At some point do need to get out for some fresh veg etc, there is some leftover chilli so can have that for lunch, not sure about tea, W8trose do 20% off fresh fish on a Friday so will see what's on offer.
Hope you and your family have a fantastic holiday JACKIE loved reading about all the little traditions the boys insist on
Have a good day everyone, take card folks x0 -
Morning all
Thinking of Lainey and her mum today.
Also Csarina, hope some help can be provided for you.
I stayed in bed for a couple of hours this morning but didn't manage to get back to sleep.
Hubby's tax form is finally finished, it took me 3 or 4 days to complete it, but hopefully he will get a rebate after all my hard work.
Today I'm packing up my posh Kenwood Chef ready for it to go to its new home, also my meat slicer is going and I need to get one of my DGD's to choose a couple of my miniature houses to keep. The rest will go in the bin but Norah is a funny, earnest little soul and desperately wants to keep a house or 2 and her mum has agreed.
More garden watering/cat feeding today, I think hubby wants to go out today, maybe for lunch.
I went out with my DD's last night, it was good to all get together without the children, lovely though they are. We never get to finish a conversation with them around. DD1 is hoping to move soon and DD2 has heard of a job that would suit her really well, so we had lots to talk about.
I received an email yesterday to say that the parking charges had been dropped, I have been fighting this for about 8 weeks now. We stayed in a hotel when we went to a boat show and there was a cockup with their parking system. I was sent parking charges of £300 for 3 days parking as I wasn't shown as staying in the hotel where I parked. It is now all sorted, what a relief.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning all,
Yesterday evening was good fun. Went to the gym straight from work and got home to make spicy chicken pittas with corn on the cob and spicy rice. Was abosultely shattered by the time I got to bed at around 11ish which made getting up at 5.30 this morning even more difficult.
I met my friend at the local running track and we ran a few drills. My dodgy knee played up a bit though which was worrying, I really need to get back into doing stretches like the physio said.
Not sure what the plan is tonight. There was talks of visiting C*stco to buy some stuff in bulk and save in the long run but I'm not sure I need anything in bulk.
Anyway, back to work. Have super day every one
Jackie - Have a nice holiday
Gers - Enjoy your day!
Hester - YAY on the parking charges0
