kitchen contract

Hi looking for some help, my mother who is nearly 80 has ordered a kitchen from Leekes in Llantrisant. She has paid a deposit but they have said she must pay balance before fitting (total cost near £14k). She did question at the time but sales guy said you won't have any problems! !
I have told her not to pay upfront like that, what are her options
1. Cancel order? What will be the penalty?
2. Refuse to pay upfront and agree a hold back? Does she have the right if entered into a contract already?
Help please

A lot of kitchen companies do ask for full payment but holding 10% to completion of the fitting is quite normal too.
I'd try to negotiate the 10% if possible now. It won't hurt them too badly.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Agree with Doozer. The two companies we got that far with last year wanted 90% with the balance immediately payable on satisfactory installation.
Asking for 100% is like saying nothing ever goes wrong, which is simply untrue. We were left with a hole where an appliance should have been for around 2 months. Not the kitchen co's fault, but having the money retained meant there was an incentive for the delay to be sorted asap.
The risks for them are obvious, but in kitchens, as in life, everything is negotiable.0
