I had a letter come through the post asking me to attend the local job centre plus for a benefits review but all very official looking but once I got to the end of the letter it was saying (compliance dept) Now once reading this decided to ring the number and ask was it a benefit review or a compliance interview The man who answered rather reluctantly said well yes actually it is so when I questioned why did they just not say that it was a compliance interview instead of putting the heading as benefits review his answer was well it still technically falls under the same thing ... Turns out that someone had in fact reported me telling lies against me saying I was running a business from home and one of my children was not living with me all lies but still nothing like a DWP letter to get the heart racing even when you have not done anything (if you do get a letter do ask them to tell you what the interview is about as being fore warned is fore armed you have the right to know so do use the number call and ask and also ask to bring the appointment forward as the DWP love to let you sweat it out ..:rotfl:
  • Just had one of these..Had one 3 years ago. Same guy at Stourbridge Jobcentre. He asked me about some alleged employment that I was supposed to be doing last year. He gave me some address which when I looked there are 2088 companies at the address. Since I wasn't working at all during the period in question he asked me to provide evidence from them payroll number etc. When I looked on the internet there isn't such a company that I have alleged been working at.. I haven't a clue what they're on about. One thing is very clear however . The " Complience Officer" was extremely aggressive rude angry and farcically absurd. When I asked him for the alleged evidence for their actions he did not respond. He severely resented me questioning his conduct and his questions. He was thoroughly unprofessional.

How can you grade another individuals resentment levels?

  • i have received the same letter today, appointment to see compliance officer, although the number i phoned on the letter went to a voicemail and he introduces himself as the fraud officer!
    i am frantic with worry,
I suffer from peripheral neuropathy and am in pain 24hrs a day, i have a mobility restricted driving licence as it is easier for me to drive than walk, my feet are no longer weight bearing and i risk damaging tendons when i do walk even with crutches,

I recently applied for a house move and informed them i had separated from my g/f and wanted to move nearer my family, i dont know if that might be it? She wasnt my sole carer and didnt live with me nor did she claim benefits, she only worked part time (under 16hrs) i never caimed for her either

Also i helped my 67yr old mum decorate her house over xmas, i didnt do the work but i ordered most of her wallpaper and flooring etc on my computer, she put the money in my bank and i ordered it and had it delivered to her house, Could that be it??

i'm going insane with worry, its not even for a week or so, my head is in the shed right now

It could be someone reporting you as living with your ex girl friend or it could be about the money in your bank ( how much was it? Did it take your savings over £6000?)

Or it could be something entirely different. There is absolutely no need for concern if you have done nothing wrong and can explain any discrepancies.

I got the same letter. Someone had maliciously reported me for benefit fraud. I called the number and asked had I been and was told no. But I had been. I had a half an hour chat with the compliance officer. I answered all questions he asked and from one of the questions I knew why I had been reported.

I knew I had been. It wasn't benefit fraud. The issue I was reported for. I was very anxious on the run up to the meeting but it was fine.

Family members of mine had also given me a small amount of money. They had no issue with that. I am on universal credit and he said there was absolutely no issue with that whatsoever. He looked at my bank statements. My pension statements. Asked me some general questions and it was only at the very end I found out exactly why I had been reported.

On the other hand I have heard of people getting the same letter when all they wanted was additional information from that person.

If you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about. When you go answer all those questions truthfully and take everything with you they've asked you to take.

The officer I spoke to was very pleasant. It was not an interrogation. Hope things go ok for you.
  • Can anyone help?

My husband got a letter saying someone will be calling for a DWP housing benefit compliance telephone interview

Has anyone had a telephone interview? What did they ask? What info do we need to have at hand?

    Many thanks
