help, single mum taking son on "mini cruise" to amsterdam - insurance help!

Hi there, i couldn't find anything to help me on the forums previously - please forgive me if i have missed it...

i'm taking my 6 year old to holland on the P&O "mini cruise" over night on the ferry each way and 2 nights in a hotel in holland.

looking at insurance, cruises command a higher premium - i can understand if you're on a long cruise round the world or something, but not for an over nighter to europe surely?

does anyone have experience of this - and can recommend any good insurance companies to choose from?

thank you so much, i would really appreciate any help

Aren't you just going on an overnight ferry?
Are you looking for the wrong category of insurance.

    What quotes have you had?
  • Hi Lisyloo, thanks for replying. looking at usual insurance, between £10 and £16 for the trip... but then i notice "cruising insurance" option and though the trip is in essence an overnight ferry... it is marketed as a "mini cruise" so i cynically think that is the worst happened, and i didn't have the "cruise" part in my insurance... they would void it! perplexed....

Many normal travel insurance will cover the basics of a cruise.
The cruise option will usually just covers extra's like missing departure at a port, being confined to your cabin etc.

Some insurance won't cover cruises as part of standard insurance, and insist you take the separate travel insurance

Have just done a quote for insurance and virgin don't seem to exclude cruise cover, and was getting a £16 quote
