60,000 itunes credits

Not sure if this is in the right place but here goes. Just want an opinion to see if i can chance my luck with this.

My work provides me with pru health health care and one of the benefits is a code per month for a free song on itunes. I redeemed my code last night and it gave me 60,000 credits.

I started downloading some songs then thought what if they find out and bill me so i emailed and told them what happened.

The replied and said its obviously a mistake they will investigate next thing the have accessed my itunes account and removed the credits.

To me that isnt investigating thats accessing an account without my permission. I redeemed a code its not my fault it gave me 60,000 credits.

Does anyone think i should complain and fight this and at least see if i can get some credits. I also emailed apple but they havent responded yet

What proof do you have that they accessed your iTunes account? (physical/tangible proof). They likely have just contacted the provider who has rescinded any previous credits, which doesn't mean accessing your account.

Unless you have tangible proof that they have done so, you don't have a leg to stand on.

Someone (or something) had to access your account to put the credits on, even though you redeemed the code yourself - what's the difference?

It is your fault that you then started downloading songs with impunity before realising, as you readily admit, that you might get caught and charged!

The (obvious) error has been reversed, no one has "accessed" your account without permission. You tacitly gave them permission to act when you pointed out the mistake.

Perhaps Apple will offer you a goodwill gesture for your "trouble", but don't count on it.

I would not complain, as I cannot see any reason to do so. I doubt that pru health were given access to your itunes account. I expect they informed Apple of the error and had the erroneous credits removed by Apple.

They are legally entitled to correct their mistake including removing any songs you acquired with the credits that were given in error.

I agree the error was not yours, but nor have you suffered any loss as a result of that error. The worst that happens is you are put back to the position you were had no error been made.

You didn't expect to keep all the 60,000 credits? You did the right thing in letting them know. They might let you keep the extra ones you downloaded but you cant really expect anything more.

If you are not careful your employer could just withdraw these perks for everyone
  • 60,000 credits at the correct rate of 1 per month whilst signed up the private medical policy equates to 5,000 years of cover.
As it was so obviously a mistake why on earth did you even start using them?
