Unable to attend a course for medical reasons help

Hi there,
Short version:
My wife booked and paid online for several courses she can no longer attend due to medical conditions. Can't get a refund or the course material she paid for - help?
Long version:
Am after a little advice regarding my wife having booked onto several Personal Training courses and then developing a medical condition after the booking but before the courses started that has seen her bed bound and thus unable to attend.
They were booked and paid for in full online and my wife contacted them several (albeit more than 2) weeks after booking informing them that her condition would prevent her from attending and could she cancel. They then stated it would be no problem for her to take the courses any time within a 2 year time frame. Unfortunately her condition has worsened and with no improvement in sight, that two year time frame is going to expire with her still being physically unable to attend.
With this in mind she has asked for a refund which has been refused, they are also refusing to send out the course material so that she could at least get some of the knowledge without the qualification.
Is there anything we can do to either get the money back or the materials associated with the course? As it stands she had paid In excess of £1000 and received nothing.
Many thanks for your time,
Scott

What do the T&Cs state? Can she get a medical certificate stating that she is medically unable to do the course?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Sorry but unless their is grounds for a refund due to medical issues (very unlikely) then there is no grounds for a refund.0

And how do you figure that one?0 -
I would say no you are not entitled.0

Company contacted several weeks after booking and now the 2 year time frame is approaching.... It would be interesting to know:
1. What the condition is.
2. What dialogue you have had with the provider.
3. What the terms and conditions you agreed to were.
Also, you say that she is physically unable to attend. But is she mentally unable to attend? She is able by the sounds of it. So you could probably get a partial refund for the classroom element, but if she is of sound mind and NOT on her death bed then I can't really see the issue in completing the course material at home? Take the material and negotiate on the assessment material/exams. I'm sure they'll be open to negotiation if you are ultimately paying for the course, surely?
If she's on her death bed then I sympathise greatly and you have a whole different kettle of fish there.
They refused to send any of the material out so she could do some at home.0 -
And how do you figure that one?
I agree that the tutor should be able to provide at least the course outline and a recommended reading list, but I don't think they are legally obliged to.my wife having booked onto several Personal Training courses0 -
Maybe to be a Personal Trainer? That would be prohibitive to some health conditions. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
