Two Annual Travel Insurance Policies At The Same Time

I wonder if I could ask if anybody has any experience of this situation.
We currently have an annual travel policy (not world wide) with Saga which runs from April 2016-April 2017.
We have just booked two transatlantic crossings in May and June of next year which have required two substantial unrefundable deposits. As a result we wanted to get the May/June US holiday covered by insurance as soon as possible.
Our request for single trip insurance (which seemed the best idea) from Saga produced an eye-watering quote as we both have a few medical conditions.
We then approached Staysure who have given us a far better quote which, for reasons we can't understand, was cheaper if we took out annual worldwide cover rather than single trip.
We queried the fact that we would then have two annual policies running at the same time but the representative said that this was not unusual and that the insurance companies "sort it out among themselves" if a claim is made.
I am perfectly happy to have this set up in the case of needing to cancel because there is plenty of time to argue the toss but I am more concerned about an upcoming cruise we have in December as to who we would contact about any medical treatment we might need since you always have to get "permission" before seeking medical attention.
We thought about cancelling our Saga policy although we would not receive any refund but wondered if anybody on the forum might have had any experience of this situation.
Apologies for the long post.

As you were advised having 2 policies in force is not a problem
The insurers sort out claims between themselves.
So if you need to claim whilst both are in force claim off the one with the smaller excess0
