O/S Daily Thread for Thursday 11th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

DGD5 stayed last night after the others had gone home, we made cress heads and played dominoes, she was in bed and asleep by 7 and hubby was in bed not long after.

I'm taking her home at 10, staying at DD2's whilst she has a Dr's appointment then I'll come home and get the spare room ready for our imminent visitor.

For those who didn't see my post last night, we have a visitor arriving soon, a friend of hubby's who's wife is not expected to live until the weekend. Hubby will send his friend my mobile number and he will phone me to let me know when he is arriving, even if it is the middle of the night. He has his bags packed and in his car, I believe his plan is drive straight from the deathbed to our house. He is determined to be with his wife at the end as she adores him and he refuses to abandon her. This is a surprise as he's always walked away from everyone and everything before as soon as things didn't go his way.

Other plans today include gibbering quietly in a corner somewhere and sorting out the kitchen.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all, thanks for the thread Hester X

Just caught up on yesterday's later posts. Hester you are too nice for your own good. i wouldn't like to see someone homeless but why is he your responsibility - especially seeing as DH hasn't heard from him in a year.

DHs interview yesterday wasn't great. Only 50 mins with two people. It's such a roller coaster, one minute feeling positive that he has some irons in the fire, the next minute wondering if he did enough to secure a second interview. DS1 has picked up some labouring work starting today. He is doing construction at FE college so this will be good for him. He also has a trial at a hotel on Saturday night (straight after his usual cafe day shift) so he will be shattered!

Got the bathrooms cleaned and two loads of towels washed and dried yesterday. Will strip the beds later after work. Dinner will be HM Mac n cheese mmmmmmm.

csarina - I hope DH had a good night X
Flutterby - any news? X

Have a good day all

Morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread HH

A murky start to the day and it rained all day yesterday. My day was busy as I sorted out loads of rubbish in the house, did a little shopping, did the patient run and then my friends arrived. It's really lovely to see them.

We sat up late talking and having a couple of gins, most pleasant.

Today I'm doing the morning unemployed workshop, it's not usually very busy but there's also a job fair running in another room do there will be more people around. I'll leave early and take my friends out.

So, definitely not a NSD ahead but a good day.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread Hester, like others I can't quite understand why the man is going to end up with you but bless your generous heart for allowing it x

Raining here at the moment, am pleased as the lawn was starting to look parched and there is not much grass in the paddocks.
Had a smashing time with my friend yesterday afternoon, we sat outside in the courtyard garden and just talked for two hours :) did manage to have a late lunch of roasted beetroot and goats cheese on rye bread, delicious. A mutual friend had a nasty riding accident on Sunday, her horse reared and fell backwards on her so fractured one of her vertebrae  she went into surgery yesterday and had a text last night from her to say all had gone well and hopefully she can start sitting up today. Even the best behaved horses can spook, she wasn't wearing back protector as was hot.
Work today and then finished for the week thank goodness.

Chilli tonight with cauli rice, one of my favourites.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 also gone to work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dull, dreich and raining steadily here, very wet underfoot with laying water - but forecast is that it will stop raining and dry up this afternoon, we'll see. Washing will go on the line when/if the rain stops.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms and beans. I had this as a planned dinner for earlier in the week, but did a re-shuffle of the menu so the LO's from the roast could be used up first.

Work yesterday was steady - but again we had spells of all or nothing, the phones were quite busy from 2pm, calls were continous - but that was because there wasn't many staff.

I have a "to do" list today - there's a 2 or 3 very important jobs that must be done either today or tomorrow at the latest, so must address this. All chores are just all the normal, I have a stack of clean dry washing that needs ironing, and only a small load in the WM ready to go out on the line once the rain stops. I'll just potter along with all the other jobs throughout the day.

Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:

Hester You've put up with a lot over the years. You now do a lot (too much!) for other people. You're downsizing for financial reasons – IIRC? Please don't start stretching yourself even further (is that even possible?) by paying for this man's housing, food and bills. Because that's what you'll be doing. He is an adult and can take himself off to the council to get help with finding a bedsit/whatever. It's about time you put yourself first. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE say no. I'm actually quite worried about this :(

Rosie Chick has decided to start laying again so we're now getting two eggs per day. The two littlies, Peanut and Coco, are still on strike and taking it in turns to go broody. Mogs will probably never lay again, she's seven now. Millie was poorly but now fully recovered, she'll probably start laying again soon. Cleo is the only one not to let us down lately :D They seem very pleased with the branches, twigs and leaves I put in their run yesterday, they're having a great time rooting through it all :D

I was attacked by the brambles yesterday. My arms are covered in scratches, I didn't notice them til I got in the shower and they started stinging. I also have a nice big scratch near my left eye, I have no idea how that happened :D I was surprised by how many blackberries we have, I'll be munching my way through those soon. I'll be out in the garden for most of the day again, I'll be a bit more careful and hopefully avoid any more abuse by plants, lol.

• Morning folks. Thanks for the start HESTER but what can I say??!! Other than I hope that the bombshell that's hit you is very very temporary.

I am sneaking around here as the 3 DGDs are still asleep, hopefully for a bit longer as they were all late to bed and had all had busy days. We had a lovely, but hectic day with the two youngest yesterday. We started off with an unplanned visit to McDonalds for lunch! Not my idea of fine dining but it was edible and the girls enjoyed it! Then onwards to the museum which, as usual, was enjoyable for us all. The theme this time was Alice in Wonderland and they had fun trying different outfits on. Mr TA looked very fetching in the Mad Hatter's top hat with ginger wig attached when he got photographed with two "Alices"!

Eldest DGDs 12th birthday today and DD has left some cards and presents here for her to open. She enjoyed her day out with her friends yesterday but it worked out pretty expensive for DD! We are all going to the Balti House tonight for a family celebration. DGD's Godmother and DD's best friend and son also joining us so a large gathering.

Meanwhile we have the girls all day and it may well prove a long day as it's wet and windy outside so we'll be housebound! They are all excited as tomorrow they leave for the south coast where they are staying overnight, in readiness for an early ferry over to the IOW Sat morning.

Youngest DGD just got up and watching Wissper and I have bacon defrosting for breakfast when they all get up and sausages for lunch. No tea required with eating out tonight!

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where wanted. Hope DH had a good night CSARINA. Calling FLUTTERBY! We are all waiting for news! Thinking of the poorlies and poorly relatives. Enjoy your day if you can and take care xx

Morning All

Wet and dull here again, yesterday was a washout. I bought a clematis from Aldi but it was a bit wet to go out and plant it, maybe later.

Had a lovely time at a work colleague's house yesterday, beautiful lunch and good company, she has a cute 9 week old baby too. Made another tote bag last night, going to start a hot water bottle cover later if I get chance.

Appt at the kitchen place today (that will be boring) but visiting a friends later, she has a hot tub in her shed! I'm going on the train in case an alcoholic beverage slips along.

HH, Perhaps you could tell your visitor he can stay until he has spoken to the housing office to get something sorted out.
TA - Enjoy your meal out, I think you deserve it!

Have a good Thursday, take care. XX
• Good morning all,

After work yesterday my GF and I went to her sisters for pizza and pasta which was super. I managed a run at work so got some exercise in which was good.

Tonight is my turn to cook for my mate and I. Unsure what to make and can decide if I should go shopping at lunch and go to the gym when I finish or go a run at lunch and then go shopping after. Need to look online for some inspiration into ‘man food’ as we like to change it up each week.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and it’s brighter were you are than here!

HH - I take my hat off to you.
Lainey - I hope your friend recovers quickly.
