Breakdown Cover

Hi all,
Long term RAC customer who used to pay £80 a year for roadside assistance. I added recovery & roadside/recovery for my otherhalf a few months back but my renewal is £246!
I'm going to check out comparison sites but annoyingly I forgot to do this before they took the money so I need to call the RAC first.
Any recommendations on joint breakdown cover which could come in cheaper than this?

I've heard about these. Have you used them and had to use the service? (i.e. a call out).0

My biggest criticism of Auto Aid is its a pay and reclaim service.
No doubt they do pay out, however its extra hassle and you're out the money in the meantime.
I'm with StartRescue. I've a four car policy for the four cars in our household, including homestart and onward travel and it comes in at around £135 a year for FOUR cars!
You can either cover the car for any driver, or yourself for any car.
Their homestart cover with overnight accommodation, free legal assist, accident recovery, and onward travel starts at £28.79
I've had to use them twice. No issues at all. Very decent service0 -
MSE used to recommend Quoteline Direct, £59 for everything. I used then for four years, called out three times, excellent service, including the time I had to be trailered 200 miles home. I only stopped using them as now get breakdown cover included with my flexplus account.0

Have been a member for just over 10 years, used them three times, no problems. I belong to three car clubs and most members are also with Autoaid.
I don't recall ever hearing an Autoaid member making any negative comments about them. The negative comments always come from those who aren't members.
I believe I'm paying £42 this year for self and wife for any car we are driving. Following a breakdown Autoaid will take you and up to five passengers to any destination of your choice. Some other breakdown services will only take you to the nearest garage.0 -
Thanks all. I got RAC to knock £100 off so it's down to just under £80 for me and the other half which I was quite happy with obviously still way higher than AutoAid.0

Autoaid sold out to right choice in may this year.
Negative feedback now being reported here and across the net.
There is also this long running thread in the insurance forum - "avoid insuring with RCIB"

I mix on a weekly basis with Autoaid members and can only repeat that I have never heard a negative comment.
The "long running thread" you refer to is about people who didn't fully understand the terms of heir car insurance and is 4 years old. It has no relevance to people's experiences with breakdowns.
What happened in your experience with Autoaid, did you complain and can you tell us the outcome.0 -
I pay £68 a year for Club Toyota, provided by the AA. Can't fault them.0

Used Autoaid for about 6 or 7 years.
Had one callout.
Excellent service & paid up promptly.0
