Temp car insurance
Hi all,
My car insurance expires next week, as I am going travelling end of September I still need to use my car but don't need the annual renewal.
My issue is: Why are all the specialist temporary car insurer such a rip off? My annual renewal price was £300, the best I have got back for 20 days insurance is £180. I have no points, accidents, 7 years NCB, etc.
So far I have used tempcover, which is what all the big insurers I have called have suggested, plus a few other temp cover comparison websites.
Does anybody know any tips or insurers that aren't a complete rip off?

You can't compare temp cover with the cost of annual policy.
Eg with the annual policy it would cost you £ 300 for 20 days in the event you made a claim, and loss of ncd unless protected0 -

I'm not sure I understand you... If 365 days cost £300 how can 20 cost £180, what logic do they apply working this out? The chances are I'm not going to make a claim, considering in 7 years I never have. It just seems as though they have all stopped providing temp cover directly and direct you to tempcover.com so they can charge extortionately expensive prices as they know you have little other options0 -
Consider buying a years policy and cancel when no longer needed, you will get a pro rata refund minus an admin fee so check this out before buying.0

WE went with the Co-Op. They weren't the cheapest for the insurance itself but were substantially cheaper with the admin charges which made them cheaper for us0 -

How much was the admin charges?
The cheapest annual cover for me was £257 on the confused.com search results with Esure, I decided to go with them.
They stated it was a £27 admin fee for cancellation before 14 days and around £57 after (and the refund pro-rated)
I am happy with this as £57 + 1/12 of £257 is far better than £250+ quotes I was getting for a month insurance with tempcover.com and similar sites.0
