Are you saying the RAC man was wrong, and the battery is fine, but just needs charging?
Why would the RAC man lie?

He probably didn't lie, he's just wrong.

I seriously doubt the average RAC patrol operative fully understands battery chemistry or electrical engineering well enough to properly use or interpret the results of the 'clever' battery tester they are given.

Simple fact is that the battery went flat.

    Charge it.

I was in a similar situation, battery died, I replaced it but didn't realise a rug had caught in the boot latch and left the boot light on completely killing the battery leaving nothing working. I jump started it, took it for a drive and it's been fine ever since particularly now the rug is kept clear of the latch.

If you bothered to charge it you will find out that the battery is fine, just discharged.

You do own a charger. It's attached to the engine.

Yes, im obviously giving it a drive at night when i finnish work, but it wont be til sunday until i can go for a proper drive.

People were saying earlier i should remove the battery from the car and charge it, thats what i meant by not having a charger.

    Thanks, though.

"If you bought it from an independant local factors you paid more than you needed to and are at the mercy of the shop owner when it comes to warranty issues."
BigJill:what an utter croc of sheet you talk.
Why would a motor factor honour any warranty with no proof of purchase?
The customer could have bought the offending battery anywhere and be trying it on.
Motor factors offer a great service in the main.
I got a really good deal on a Yuasa battery for my Volvo last November from Sutton Auto Factors. 1/2 the price of Halfords.

You don't need remove the battery from the car - but, obviously, you need to park somewhere near a power socket. A 12v charger isn't expensive - I needed a new charger, and have just bought one of these - http://www.simonbbc.com/charging/lifeline_6v_and_12v_trickle_charger_and_battery_maintenance_conditioner

You don't say what car, but from the RAC test you pasted, 45Ah and 410CCA is a small battery - so a replacement is almost certainly going to be under £50 anyway bought online.

That is why most shops mark the battery when you buy it, so they know you are bringing back the one they sold you. ;)

With regard to accidentally leaving interior lights on, THIS is why one of the first mods I do to a car is to change out all the interior bulbs and replace them with LEDs (but not COB or "canbus").

With LEDs I could leave my interior lights on for over a week and the car would still start.
