Last minute date change!

Hi everyone,
I've been a member of this forum for several years but have never wondered into this area before.
My partner and I had planned to take our daughter (2 years old) away on her first holiday at the end of August and had quite a bit of flex on when and where.
However due to a new role within my company I now only have set dates I can travel. After being so relaxed in waiting for a deal to come up due to the flexibility we had, it's now become a bit of a stress!
We would need to leave on the 26th August for 7 days. Our initial budget of £1200 seems to small now (can be stretched at a push) for that specific day.
Is there any advice from other members? Should we leave it really last minute or call up several companies? Where would you head for a family holiday? We had planned on Kefalonia (sp?) or Tenerife but prices seem to have shot up.
Holiday has to be within 4 hours flight and 1 hour transfer (little one is a restless girl!) and ideally with flights from Manchester or Liverpool. Child entertainment and by the beach is our main priority.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look at Jet2, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Monarch late deal pages, also holiday hypermarket. If you can go on an evening/night flight on the 25th then have a look at those.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Suspect you might be lucky as it's last week of English school hols - we've just managed 10nights in Turkey for 4 of us for £1800 leaving on 19th but that was £800 cheaper to fly from Glasgow than Manchester0

Thanks for your replies, really appreciate it.
Any further info would be great!0 -
See if you can get to a scottish airport - the schools will have gone back then so a lot cheaper from there.
Also, widen your destination area. One island is going to seroously be difficult on that budget.
Have you had a look at Travelrepublic? or thought of going DIY?0 -
evo1,go to the Jet2 web site, click on Jet2 holidays then click the " Deals " button at the top,put in your details, number of people, dates, airports etc and you might get a good deal.
Best of luck.0 -
Thanks Ganga - I will take a look

Dom - those specific islands were before our flexibility was taken away. We're now just hoping to get anywhere nice (family) on that specific date whether via package or DIY.
Scotland maybe a pain to get to the night before but will take a look, cheers!0 -

there are flights from Newcastle, Birmingham and Manchester to various resorts/countries which would fit your budget (and you'll have far more choice and bang for your buck if you can fly from Glasgow or Edinburgh). I just had a look on the Thomas Cook website (I like that one to start with as you can nominate a lot of airports, compared with other package holiday search engines). I'd also have a look at holidayhypermarket, and if neither of those gets you what you'd like, check kayak/skyscanner for cheap flights and see if you can put together flights and hotel yourself by going DIY.
eta - holidayhypermarket have Tenerife packages from around £280 each for a week for your dates, flying from Edinburgh with Thomson/Skytours.
And no, I wouldn't leave it any later than now to book, I've been keeping my eye on the prices for flights/packages for the last month or so (I'm booked for Greece in a fortnights time) and the prices have only gone up, not down, in that time, for all of August (I am flexible up to and including your holiday week and I've been checking them all lol).0 -
I've heard 8 weeks before is a good time to book and then last minute prices start to rise, but there's always exceptions.
I hope you find something nice.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Thank you so much for the information balletshoes, really appreciate you taking time to reply.
Kynthia - thank you as well, fingers crossed. Have a lovely holiday yourself!0 -

Just Butlins this year I'm afraid. Having a nice holiday abroad is possible with a 2 year old but being pregnant as well just seems too much. :rotfl:
I know a couple of people that went to Minorca this year, to an all - inclusive hotel with a water park attached. They had a great time and so did the young children, if you fancied a shorter flight.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
