Buy USA Simm in UK before holiday?

HI.

Is it possible to buy a USA sim in the UK, pre-activated with calling credit on it that will work immediately on arrival in the USA without the user needing to do anything (other than switch the phone on)?

Regards

Have you not thought of using a UK Three Network SIM?
The US is part of their 'Feel at Home' service
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I did have a look at getting US sims before travelling, but the Three option appears to be the cheapest so I've gone with that.

FWIW, the US sims seemed to be costing around $60 with enough allowance to cover the 10 day trip.
  • Three is definitely the way to go but what they don't tell you is that you can only use the Free At Home for 2 months in a 12 month period...beware!

It depends what you need it for. If you only want calls/texts to and from the UK and use data, your Three contract has 'Feel at Home' service to include that while in USA. But if you want to call local US numbers or elsewhere, that's not included and will cost accordingly. So if you need that, and to have a US mobile number that you can be contacted on from US phones without them incurring international charges, you can I believe order a prepaid US SIM card with credit starting from about $20 by mail order, such as T-Mobile. Have a Google...

    They clearly do tell:
If you roam exclusively in a Feel At Home destination for any 2 complete months in a rolling 12 month period, we may suspend international roaming on your account, which means you'll no longer be able to use your device or allowances abroad. We'd let you know if this were likely to happen first. If you spend a full month abroad but some of that time is spent in a destination that isn't included in Feel At Home, this restriction won't apply.

    It is not unreasonable.
