Gas and elec bill

Just moved properties from a rented home to our first house ☺️

Final meter reads have left us with an outstanding balance of £265 for the gas and elec. I'm currently on maternity leave with limited 'free' money beyond the budgeted bills as hubby is self employed so money is not always steady - we have saved to make up my wage to keep me off with our little boy until he is 5months then I'll return to work.

The energy company offered us a payment plan or full repayment. Would a payment plan affect our credit rating? What would be the best option here? I'm worried about making the right decision of credit rating vs being stretched on Mat leave... The energy co isn't our current supplier at the new property, I was hoping to switch to a cheaper tariff not automatically take the old supplier over to manage the money owed - unless that is the best thing to do.

Any advice welcome ☺️

Once you have contacted the supplier of the new property, you can switch whenever you like.

You will have a small bill - depends on how much you use - from the original supplier until the switch completes.

Old property bill - did you check that the bill is correct and based on actual readings and is not an estimated bill, and the final bill date is the actual date you left the property?

If you do decide to accept a payment plan I don't think it will affect your credit rating but I'm not sure on this.

Thank you. Yes, unfortunately the bill is based on readings I took! I may ask them re credit rating.
First I'll check about if they are cheapest available and possibly transfer them over.

    Thank you
