Car Insurance Query
Options
Hi everyone,
My and hubby are looking to move and I will be very much closer to work, and I won't *need* a car as such; in order to save the money I'm paying out on the lease, I'd like to hand my car back in October as per the terms, but what I'm most concerned about is my car insurance. Would I be able to switch my insurance over to hubby's car to keep my NCB ticking over? I will use his car but I know not all insurance companies will allow named drivers to build a NCB (as far as I'm aware, it's only Admiral). I currently have 9 years NCB and wanted to keep it to ensure that in the likely event of me getting a car again in a few years time, I won't be starting from scratch. Other than this idea, I don't know what else I can do.
Anyone know if a car can be insured twice? Sounds silly but I honestly don't know...
Many thanks!

A car can't be insured twice, no.
NCB "lives" for up to two years between policies - so it doesn't need to be in use constantly. You could insure in his name one year, and your name the next.0 -
It's actually perfectly possible to hold two insurance policies on the same car - it's just generally a pointless thing to do because you're effectively paying twice for one lot of insurance. It can also make life unnecessarily complicated in the event of a claim - if the claim is for something covered by both policies (eg theft) then the two insurance companies end up paying half each.
As above a far better way to hang onto both NCDs is to alternate the policyholder, so you insure the car one year, your husband insures it the next etc. That way you can keep both NCDs going indefinitely (assuming you make no claims, of course).0
