My credit score wrongly says I've missed a payment, when I haven't.

Options
I took a loan out with my local credit union (Castle and Minster) in September 2014, after about 3 months the Union went into administration, after which the debt was taken over by administrators Leonard Curtis. My payments continued as before without problem and after the debt was paid off in May this year I received a letter from Leonard Curtis saying the balance has been cleared and I no longer owe anything and I should cancel my direct debit, which I did.

Now after looking at my credit score it says I missed a payment to the administers, I contacted Leonard Curtis to get an explanation and hopefully get the wrong information removed but was told the right person wasn't in the office at that time. I left a message for them to contact me, which they didn't. I have since called back, only to be told the person I need to speak to only works part time and again they're not in the office, again I asked for them to contact me, which they haven't. That was two weeks ago and I've still heard nothing back. I got my new credit score come today and the missed payment is still affecting my score.

Can anyone advise me on what course of action would be best? And if there's anything I can do apart from keep phoning the administrators and getting the run around.

Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks for the quick response, it's very much appreciated, do I need to contact all 3 agencies or just the one I use?

Check them all and dispute it with any its recorded with, it may be only 1. When you say "the one you use" you aren't paying are you?

Clearscore.com and noddle.com are where you can check Equifax and call credit for free as for Experian you shouldn't be paying more than £2 for a statutory report, anything else is a waste of money

No am not paying, using Clear Score and going to sign up to noddle as well, to check if it's on there.
  • It's your credit REPORT you're looking at - not your credit score. Your credit score is a fictional number provided by credit reference agencies in an attempt to sell you their 'improve' service.

Quite simply, if there's an incorrect entry on your credit report (not score), write to the credit reference agency and instruct them to remove it, or correct it. They have an obligation under the Data Protection Act to report only correct information.
