Dishwasher not rinsing properly

Options
Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes. My dishwasher doesn't seem to rinse properly. Everything is left with a white salty residue (I actually noticed the problem because my coffee tasted salty). Tried running a rinse program and is looks as if there's water coming out of all the arms. Can't seem to find anything about this problem on Google, every search seems to bring up a bunch of posts about dishwashers not cleaning properly which isn't really the problem - the dishes seem clean enough. Any ideas what might be causing it or how to solve the problem?

Salt container cap not tight (or gasket damaged) or faulty regeneration valve.

I would suggest you clean the filter and rinse with this > https://www.finish.co.uk/products/performance-enhancers/machine-cleaner/regular/

We did a clean with that exact product yesterday although it doesn't seem to have done any good.

Salt container cap appears to be on tight. Any (easy) way to check if the regeneration valve is faulty or would I need a professional to look at it?

Dishwasher cleaners are pointless, the dishwasher cleans itself every time you use it.

I cheated on the technical bit, I read it in the service manual for my 25 year-old Hotpoint dishwasher! When I used to repair them for a living I'd have read that & just fitted a new valve & hoped for the best! Of course it helps that I've got the book that tells me where it is & how to change it.

Quick update: Problem has disappeared. Even though the salt container lid seemed to be on tight, I took it off after reading EssexExile's first post, then screwed it back on and now it washes like it used to :)
