Vile Smell From Plughole

I regularly clean and bleach my sink and pour bleach down the plughole, however for the last few weeks if I have anything soaking in the sink for even 10 minutes, when I let the water out there is a horrible bad eggs type smell which comes from the plughole and I have to run water through for ages before it goes away. Even though it is not slow running water, I have used Mr Muscle drain unblocker twice and also put bleach down last thing every night but it hasn't made any difference. Does anyone know what it could be?

Try caustic soda. You can get it in B&Q - it will clear anything that's blocking the waste pipes. All those sink unblockers are rubbish - I've never come across one that works. Caustic soda works in seconds

Had the same problem a few weeks back.

Simply fixed by placing a bucket under the U-bend, unscrewing it and cleaning it out!

Clean as a whistle and fresh as a daisy!

  • Hi

If you have an overflow on the sink waste you might want to take that apart, the gunk that lurks in there is vile especially if the flexi pipe forms a 'trap' by being too long. I always cut them and make sure water won't sit in there .(I assume this is a kitchen sink?)
