UK holiday building site nightmare

Hi
We're currently in our holiday flat and the 'quiet holiday location' in the Lakes has turned out to be a building site, with power drilling, fire alarms set off by accident etc in the flat below from 7.30-5.30 every day. We booked through a second party cottage let firm who have said it has no other properties available to swap us to, apart from a tiny, not equivalent standard place for the same amount of money and a day shorter let. They had said in an email before we arrived that there HAD been work but that it would either be finished or would just be painting and decorating. The builders are clearly still working, plastering, installing wall insulation etc. We chased the booking company constantly yesterday to get any sort of co-operation. They've now said they'll approach the owner about possible compensation but we're expecting it to be another long chase with little return. After working 12-14 hour days, moving house in 6 weeks and having been on family hospital runs prior to the visit, I'm keen to arrange as much refund as possible in order to fund another holiday later this year and actually get some rest. I've looked at the consumer act etc but would love to hear any ideas on how to negotiate, names to drop etc. Thanks in advance. End of rant!!

You could take them to court for " loss of enjoyment"0

Video as much of it as you can for proof, find somewhere else if they can't move you and sue for the costs involved.
Aren't you out and about anyway? Are you really going to be spending your days in the apartment?0
