O/S Daily Tuesday 9th August 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit. Load of washing ready to go out on the line, I'll also water the tomatoes in the greenhouse - the tomatoes are all ripening at last, green beans will need a drink too.
Dinner last night was pasta in a creamy tomato sauce with breaded chicken portion for the menfolk, I had mine with minted kebabs, gave the boys 1 each to try - they were really nice. Dinner was disjointed as DH got stuck in traffic so was late home, boys and I had eaten by the time he got home. Dinner tonight will be LO's from Sundays' roast - I'll need to add some potatoes, which I'll roast I think, and I'll make a jug of gravy and the meat can re-heat in that in the oven whilst pots are roasting.
Work yesterday was very slow to start but then became much busier, had a few awkward queries, but we got everyone sorted eventually. We'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread nmlc.
Yesterday was again very blustery but mostly dry. I put out a washing load in the morning before going into town. It was all dry into about 90 minutes. I got the lawn mower out to give the grass a quick skim over and managed it with only minutes to spare before a heavy rain shower. After that the sun came out again. Still the high winds persisted so I did another load in the machine and that dried even faster than the first.
In the evening I got through all six episodes of Line of Duty (fast forwarding lots of bits) which I still hadn't seen. Well written and great acting so I enjoyed it.
Today I have a meeting in Oban so need to get my skates on. It's also exam results day so I'm hoping to hear from nervous but happy teenagers.
Happy Tuesday everyone.0 -
Morning all, another clear day, blue skies again.
Managed not too badly at work yesterday and although I struggled a bit, it was a good, productive day. Came home a bit early, couldn't manage dinner but ate half a marmite sandwich and went to bed.
I slept for a few hours, then came down and read until I got sleepy and had another couple of hours sleep. This is silky but I'll just have to work through it. I really don't want to cancel appointments unless I absolutely have to.
Still thinking of those with relatives who are really ill, not just like me being under the weather.
Hope you all have as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all. Reeling from our new early start - 0545, to get DH to new work at The Royal. (He was involved in your incident on Saturday night Speky. Horrible)
I may go back to bed for an hour once I've seen him off. We've all been fed and pack-ups made. Just need to walk the Furry and do some swotting up.
Good luck vibes at 1400 please. First interview in 8 yrs. Really scary, but at least this recruitment agent listened to me when I said - shaky and out of practice, part-time, and didn't put me forward for 9-5, 5 days a week at one of the Big4 accountancy firms.
Have a good day everyone. I can see blue sky here Gers, and the wind seems to have settled.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
Morning all, thanks for the thread nmlc X
Good luck to Furry for today X
AOD hope you're feeling better soon x
Hugs to all those with poorlies xx
So after yesterday's disappointing news DH will be off to a first interview somewhere else this afternoon. The other job is still on the boil but 40% pay cut would mean we can just about afford to live, no holidays, treats or savings. DH is very committed so wouldn't be one to take a job and carry on looking - probably wouldn't have the time anyway. He also has a first interview with another company on Wednesday. Here's hoping something turns up.
I am off to the gym shortly, then the charity office until 1pm. Have a church meeting this evening too. Will attempt to clear the ironing pile this afternoon. Dinner will be baked salmon with potatoes and veg. We were meant to have this last night but DDs friend stayed and 500g of salmon wouldn't stretch to 6 people, not as steaks anyway. Need to buy the pots and veg on way home from work.
Our weekend plans have been cancelled so I'm thinking of redecorating the hallway, stairs and landing. We have the paint and rollers, just need to get on with it!
Hope you all have a good day

Good luck to you Furry, fingers will be crossed for you. The bright blue skies we had first thing have now clouded over.
Coxy, fingers are crossed for your OH too. I really hope that something better comes up soon.0 -
Morning all,
Nice bright day again but seems a bit cooler, off to work for me today no event today so should be a bit quieter.
I got some sausages out for dinner tonight, they are those ones already in the roasting tray but I noticed last night they come with a sachet of gravy tooso will do some veg and mash once I get home.
Need to do a wash tonight too and have a sweep round.
Lainey hope everything went ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc.
Dry and bright here but certainly a cooler morning, have me cardi on
Good luck Furry and also to Coxy's OH, positive vibes etc.
Please take card of yourself AOD
No news yet on results for Mum, she is a bit bruised and battered as they couldn't find a vein to inject the dye into, finally went into her hand. It was a long wait for the scan so she was tired when I spoke to her last night so hopefully can have a restful day today.
Not much else on the cards today, work of course but that is just something to be endured!
Heard on the news this morning that we are due to have the hottest day ever at some point next week, just hope it's not Wednesday as wedding day, we don't want wilting bride do we?
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning folks. Thanks NMLC for starting off. The wind has settled down here too and it promises to be a pleasant day out there. I think the weeds in the front garden are calling out!
Yesterday morning we got our tickets and pick up time for our coach trip to the IOW on the 20th. Will you Islanders keep hold of the nice weather please! DD and Co are going down this Friday for two and a bit weeks, as usual, and we will meet up with them, weather permitting, for one or two beach days.
I had just got back from my lunch out yesterday when there was a phone call from the Royal Liverpool wanting to arrange Mr TA's Gallium scan. This is the diagnostic scan that shows whether the radionuclide therapy he has been having there has had any effect on the tumours. It was never going to be a cure, the main aim being to shrink or halt their growth. Anyway it's been arranged for three days after our return from hol. We get back Sat night and leave for Liverpool on the Tuesday, with the scans the day after. Then we are back to playing the waiting game till we see his Consultant in Leeds for the results. A worrying time but he has seemed so much better since starting the therapy that we can't help but hope.
No fixed plans for today. We are childfree until tomorrow so the day is ours! It would be a shame to waste a nice day so after the promised weeding we may have a walk up to the moors. (The plans for new fencing and ground cover for the back garden are on hold for a bit till we can make the effort to suss options out!)
I left some nice lean braising steak out to defrost last night so that is going in the slow cooker next job. We always enjoy a nice beef casserole and will look forward to that after our walk.
Have a nice day and (((HUGS))) to the poorlies, thinking of you, Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Yay good weather and the IoW what more can a person want
This morning I am going to the hairdressers first thing for a trim as my hair is not only long but pretty thick as well so I will get shorn:) then to DDs where I have to take the three youngest boys to the dentists for their 6 month check-up.Then home for lunch which I believe they have decided they want to be sausage panini's.The youngest has promised to whiz the hose over the front of my car where it was 'christened' by a few birds yesterday from where it was parked under a tree
and hopefully we will end up sitting in the sun this afternoon in the garden Only a few more days to go.:):):)The sun is already up and blazing down so I will probably be getting the boys to search out any elusive washing for the machine as well today.Mine is virtually up to date .
have a good day everyone and good luck to the job seekers, not easy in this austerity climate atm
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0 -
Morning All
I'm back from a great weekend away, good company, good weather and a relaxing time (apart from driving for a lot of it). I caught up with my DB and SIL too, not seen them for about a year.
Hope you feel better soon AOD, you seem to have been suffering from colds, etc for ages.
Good luck for the interviews Furry and Mr Coxy.
Managed to get the washing dried when I got home, it was sunny but oh so windy - thought I had left that wind back in Yorkshire! Need to do the ironing and be ready for my friend's children arriving about 8.45 as she is off for an interview, I think we may make pancakes for breakfast.
Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX0
