Peel Centre Excel County Court papers. Bought ticket wrong reg ticket not retained.

I parked at the Peel Centre and bought and displayed a ticket, I distinctly remember buying the ticket because I had to go back and ask my Common Law Wife for some change, ( she is prepared to testify as such) unfortunately I didn't retain it.
I received a PCN from Excel Parking Services and wrote back explaining the situation and then appealed to the IAS which was unsuccessful, surprise, surprise.
I have had several letters now from, Debt Recovery Plus, Zenith Collections, and letters and phone calls from BW Legal.
I have recently received a Claim form from Northampton County Court Business Centre for Excel Parking in the sum of £250 approx.
Do I stand a chance of winning this and how do I set out my defence.
Please help.

You should have replied to BW Legal like you see covered all over this forum and pepipoo forum too, every day - very common and it would have been MUCH better to reply to a solicitor's LBCCC. Ignoring debt collector lets was correct but not ignoring a legal warning of a claim. People who respond robustly to BW Legal are not usually treated as low hanging fruit and you'd have been less likely than an ignorer, to get court papers. Too late now.

But not too late to defend. And yes, cases can be won. Even if it's lost at a hearing you'd likely pay LESS than £200. Hence - defend!

To see how to set it out and what to do first (acknowledge on MCOL) read 'Small Claim?' in the NEWBIES sticky thread, especially the link to Bargepole's advice post about what happens when.

Then move on to reading at least a dozen or more defences by reading threads like yours on here and on pepipoo:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=60

Search both forums for 'Excel defence' and read lots of recent ones including the first few Redx has kindly started you off with - there are LOADS more and even more on pepipoo. Then show us your version of those examples.

But your first job is to acknowledge on MCOL online using the password on the claim. Send a private message to this person if you want moral support together to exchange research and defence ideas:

They are at the same stage as you are. Sharing a pm with a person in the same situation is OK, but DO NOT reply to any private message offering to assist, from any newbie with less than 1000 posts. There are some nasty people out there and some will pm a poster here and are not who they seem, or have a greedy agenda. Could be a parking firm, could be anyone.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
