Stabilising a dodgy drive.

HiMy drive is in a horrible state but I can't afford the 3 1/2 to 4K I've been quoted to have it done. The bit where the car is parked is poured concrete that's cracked up and the pedestrian bit is crazy paving that's also wobbly. There is lots of water under the cracked stone in winter as the water table is high. It's a big area. Would trying to push sand into the cracks be a solution until I can save up or would it be a waste of time? Any other ideas? (I've thought of getting a little rowing boat!!)Thanks

Could you put gravel over it to hide a multitude of sins - you could probably get 5 tonnes delivered for about £100 or so.0

I second the gravel idea - it covers a multitude of sins (till you have the wherewithall to repair properly). However, my neighbour was told by our local council that she must not have a gravel drive. No idea why - but it's true - nobody in our area has one.0

Thanks, both. I'd thought of gravel but I was worried that, over a paved base (even if the paving is cracked) there'd be a kind of 'marble roll' effect. Also, we'd have to find a way to stop it going over onto our neighbour's side but railway sleepers might do the job.Hmm0

as a temp cheapo job, you could drill or chisel out some nice holes/squares and fill them with say gravel. say half a dozen? (poss plant some small alpines?).
this would allow any water to rise and fall away. saving any further concrete cracking etc..Get some gorm.0 -
Any other ideas?
1. Sledgehammer
2. Skip
3. Chips or gravel.
4. Crate of lager0 -
Hi, hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread but I've also got a similar problem with part of my driveway in that it's a poured concrete one but is very uneven on the section I park my car, as it's basically made up of 3 different sections all of which seem to slope in different directions!
Is it possible to do like a concrete skim over the whole lot to make a level hard standing or would I have to take it all up and start from scratch?
I only need the section doing where my car stands as the rest of it down to the road front is gravel, but this is at a lower level so I wouldn't easily be able to extend gravel up to cover the concrete, IYSWIM
